Hi i'm having a poll here are some of the questions: Is FIOS avalible in your area? If yes do you have it (or) have you tried it? If you have tried it in a mall or public place do you think it was fast and mabe a good value for the money?

Its not available by me.....Probalby never will be.
Im in the mountains.....
I do have a 10/1 cable connection, so I doubt I would switch anyway......

Not in this area. SBC rules this roost.

I've got Comcast anyway, fuck DSL. :p

They put up fiber lines beginning of the summer but still not avaliable in my town :(

It's available in parts of my town but not my neighborhood, freaking BS. :(

I don't think the mid-west will be seeing it till 2014 so I'm good. . . .

I just want atleast 512 but perferably 768k upload on my tier as standard and 1 Mbps on the Primier instead of 384.... :(

To the one who picked "Tried it love it...blah, blah":

Download? Upload? Pings? Stability? Price? Ordering issues?

Thanks!!

Their contract (SAL?) sucks from what I hear. At least my RoadRunner will allow me to host servers. Boo ya

Will most likely won't be avaliable here for another, ice age. I have 1.5/384 and i tried to upgrade once to 3/384 but my latency just ^^^^^^^. The copper out here is so old it's not even funny

They never have 'nice things' like this in California :(

I'm not complaining though. I already have 5.0/384 connection.

FIOS ain't going to be available around here, Hawaiian Telcom purchase Verizon's infrastructure. So Verizon just left Hawaii which really sucks. So we are stuck with either Road Runner or DSL. To bad, I was looking for FIOS fiber optics to bring some speedy surfing and downloading...

It is available in all the cities around here. Unfortunately my little town sandwiched inbetween it doesn't have that fortune. I have business road runner which isn't too bad though, and previously working for a time warner partner I snagged a darn good deal on there service.

Have 'business' FIOS - 15/2, 5 fixed IP's, no blocked ports. $99/month

Had it about6 months, have had zero problems to this point

We're also very pleased that we're getting the full advertised speed, unlike the cable modem we had before

+1 when we had comsuck

With my Optimum Online I usually get about 13Mb down, 2Mb up (Should be 15/2) but if I use my upload bandwidth for a long time they cap my connection at 5Mb Down, 128Kb Up, without telling you and then you have to call them to have it reactivated :( Looking forward to get a FiOS 50Mb Down, 5Mb up plan and never having to worry about capping again :D

ok well first off comcast blows balls i have verizon fios and love them
I have the 30mbps/5mbps $125 a month and love it just perfect for gaming and the good stuff like torrents

$125/month?! Cox just increased my download speed +1 for 7Mbit total. The bastards have the nerve to charge me $5 more now too!

No FIOS in Monroeville and Turtle Creek yet, don't know when Verizon will roll out FIOS.
I would get FIOS if was available here

I got Adelphia(Soon to be Comcast) HSI 6000/768,

You're all lucky....

I can only get 56k here.

AND I CAN'T EVEN CONNECT THAT FAST!

Id love to dump my ComQuack cable internet, but my options right now are the cable, dialup, satellite, or move a few thousand miles away from washington. I was thinking the satellite might be sweet, then I could live in a van and save money on rent... but for the time being, I guess ill have to continue paying ~50 a month for (up to) 4000/384k.

Fios probably never will be avalible in my area, at least not while im alive.

I called up Verizon FIOS sales and they say SBC is pwning our lines and won't let them offer FIOS in our area.. sooooogay. Right now I'm just fine with Wide Open West 6mb/512kb service. Its $50 a month.. plus we get HD Cable through them, so its all one big package deal I guess. Individually without the internet, or without the hd cable, it would be more expensive.

FIOS probably won't arrive in Wisconsin as long as i'm alive.

I'm happy with my 5.0/512 cable connection from Charter, but I don't like the $55/month price as much. Still, that is better than the DSL alternatives from TDS or AT&T.

its available in my area, but NOT in high rises yet(I live in a condo), only residential single family homes :( I'm waiting for my building to the the hookup...

I'm likin mine, of course no gaming, but got download speeds of 700-1250k much better than the 26kbps modem connections here

they don't even have FIOS in friggin squirrel hill...(Pittsburgh)

10/2 FIOS at home, $30/month

20/2 was $40/month
forgot the higher packages

We had 1 outage about 2 hours after installation...both phone and FIOS died. We called and I got FRUSTRATED with their service line (press 1 for A press or say your name about 1000 times, multiple times it would ask the same question more than once).

Once I got through to an actual person, she said that there seemed to be a problem with the line somewhere and that she could not tell me when they would be able to fix it, but probably not until the next day. She said she would call a technician and find out, then call me back. She called back around 15 minutes later and told me it was fixed.

As far as I know, we have not had an outage since then (been about 2 months now I would say).

Solid speeds, always test at rated speeds on wired connection. Wireless tests a little lower, but that's just the nature of the beast.

No FIOS in my neighborhood. There was a verizon truck around my way the other week and it said "Ask me about FIOS" on the back,, but the tech was not around.

I would like to move to FIOS if it was available, but I am concerned about them blocking people from running servers. I run a low-traffic server for school and some personal stuff. The higher upload speed would be my biggest reason for upgrading.

FIOS is great, but ActionTec is horrible. It doesn't support a large volume of pings. Like say, updating a server list in a game. Or using DHT in bittorrent clients. It will lock up the router and require a reset.

You'll want to purchase a different router to use.

But aside from the router, loving the FIOS.

LOL first of all it NOT DSL.
It is a straight fiber connection from the CO to your home and it is a HUGE pipe.
here is Richmond VA the tech told me the run 2 houses off of 1 strand when they could really be running 24 homes.
15/2 for $45/Month, allways full line speed and have not had an outage yet, 4 months and going, I love it.

30ms pings to east coast AA servers and 60ms to west coast.
When I first got it I downloaded a 166MB file from hp.com in 92 seconds, I allmost pissed my pants LOL.

Screw you. I'm in Richmond(well henrico) as well and can't get it yet. :p

Comcast has been pretty good though so I'm not too worried. Just would love a faster upload speed.

bringing this back.. i got it today.. silver spring MD...

the problem.. i run even 1 torrent, and the thing just dies.. i need to figure this out..
its a 15/2 for $45 as far as i can tell..

i need to figure out this torrent thing though.. it was suggested that it could be the router.. we have that huge actiontec thing with wireless.. could i even get a cable modem to replace that? is there even one? the cable going into it looks like a normal ethernet cable.

Are you saying the router and the modem are one unit supplied by Verizon?

Aside from speeds, is there any difference to cable/dsl? Latency?
