Venice Overclocking problems

When I try overclocking my cpu to 2.43 ghz (270 fsb, 9x multi, 1.42 vcore, 166 memory divider, and 4x htt multiplier) I can boot into windows and use it perfectly. However, when I go to play Call of Duty 2, the game will run for maybe a couple of seconds with some graphical corruption and flickering then it freezes with the sound still playing. Then my computer gets an "nv4_disp" BSOD that says "0x000000EA (0x860D2678, 0x8615A670, 0xF78B2CB4, 0x00000001)" I'm using 81.94 video card drivers and 6.70 chipset drivers. I know it isnt a heat problem since my processor is idling at around 30c when overclocked. The system in question is listed in my sig.

216mhz on that ocz seems like it should be fine. First thing I would try is bumping vdimm up a notch.

It still does it after bumping the vcore to 2.8. I get the same lockup/bsod I did before. I also tested my other games and they produced pretty much the same results (graphical glitches). I also gave rthdribl a try and it did lock up windows for a bit, but it would then keep going after a few seconds. This would happen over and over again every couple of seconds. I'm going to try prime95 now.

Have you tried running prime95/memtest on the oc so far? And the error is blaming nvidia, if all else fails, try the older vid drivers, and/or add another fan or remove the side panel to get some air (if it's a heat issue)

I ran 4 tests of prime95 (I really dont have time to run it for like 3 hours) and it came up with no errors. I know this isnt a memory problem as this memory worked flawlessly in my 754 system at the exact same speed. I've even lowered the divider a bit more but still got the exact same problems. I really think this is my video card drivers since only 3d applications lock up.

Is this a recent build/format? Try uninstalling the graphics drivers, run driver cleaner, then reinstall the drivers again. I had some early stability issues with my build, reinstalling the graphics drivers solved it.

I ran driver cleaner and updated to the latest 81.95 drivers but I am still getting the nv4_disp/ graphical corruption errors when I oc. I am going to try running older drivers once before I just sell this damn card and buy an x1800xl. I refuse to put up with this shit.

I was having the exact problem, except it would happen in different games. I had the same mobo as you, and a 6800 at the time. Not sure if this info helps at all, but it seems like it has something to do with the nvidia drivers combined with that motherboard.

sabrina, Im assuming switching to ati solved your problem? Also, upon checking my psu in everest, the 12 volt rail reads 11.78 constantly. I think I might try a friends psu later.

Update: out of morbid curiosity I lowered my htt to 2x and my ram divider to 100. I no longer experience errors, hitching, or graphical glitches. I'll tweak it a bit more later today to narrow down the problem.

I wouldn't think 1080 ht bus would bother that dfi board much, but it was "over" spec. Try 3x ht multi and bring the ram back up to speed.

With my old ASSpire psu, the 12v rail was 11.76 - 11.78v, and I had occasional bsods. Once I got a better psu, those problems went away.

carefull just how much faith u put in the voltage readings for ur powersupply in windows,

my OCZ powerstream only reads 11.86 in windows and reads 12.11 with a voltmeter

and 11.76 isnt that bad, i ran my 64 3200 @ 2.53 w/ 1.52vcore with a 850xtpe overclocked on a crappy 19amp psu my 12v rail would dip down to 11.27 and never had anyproblems, but it bugged me having my rail that low i didnt want the psu to fry and take my comp with it so i got the OCZ hehe :p

Problem solved. For some reason, my memory isnt as good an overclocker on my dfi lanparty socket 939 as it was on my msi k8n socket 754. The max I have gotten it to run is 210mhz. I'm now rock steady w/ 315 fsb 8x multiplier and a ram divider set to limit my memory to 210 mhz. Thanks for your help everyone.
