1. My monitor has a shimmer in the screen. Similar to the "Shimmer" text effect in Microsoft Word.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

2. I'm looking to purchase at least one, maybe two, LCD screens. I've been looking at the Dell 2407WFP. Is there anything better for the price?

3. Instead of buying the second LCD screen, which would be mounted on my wall, I've been thinking about buying a projector, and painting a screen on my wall. Are there any cheap projectors around the $700-1000 price range that work well for computing, and home entertainment?

Thanks for all your help,
Jeff

P.S.
Wrong forum, but what does C2D mean? I've been gone awhile.

Uh.... what kind of monitor do you have??

If it's a crt, try and de-gauss the screen.

It is a CRT monitor, and I've tried degaussing multiple times.

Thanks though,
Jeff

Try using it in different places in the room/house.
I once had a room with a wire running under the floor that made my screen wobble when near it.

I believe you're asking about the Core 2 Duo, intels new dual core processor.

Thanks, it was bugging me.

Anyone have any projector tips?
Jeff

There have been some pretty nice looking XGA (1024x768) projectors in the last 1/2 year for around the £600 mark.
... just found this list of cheaper projectors, might come in handy.

Be sure to get at least 1024x768 res.
A Widescreen projector displays 4:3 TV/films/games in a smaller space unfortunately unless you stretch the picture.
Many games can be tweaked to use widescreen if they dont already support it.
I prefer 4:3 to 16:9 as everything you play back will fill the screen as it should.
Unfortunately, projectors above 1024x768 res are mostly 16:9.

Try to get as high a contrast ratio as possible.
As a guide, my projector is 450:1 and is great (using an Iiyama E380-S LCD).

You might be wise to get a projector that is HDCP compliant otherwise you could have issues playing High Definition films using Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Satellite etc.

Bulb prices are the real killer for projectors.
If you use a 2000hr bulb it should last going on a year with 8hrs a day use.
There are projectors with bulbs lasting up to 6000 hours but not many.
Bulbs normally cost in excess of £200, remember to cost that in.
The bulb I use is 6000 hrs for £30 approx (home made projector) :)

For the screen, you can use a brilliant white matt painted wall to produce a quite acceptable picture.
For deeper colours and a more vibrant picture, you can paint the wall with Screen Goo or buy a decent screen.
Painting the wall is a very good option as the screen can be any size you want.

I have wood walls so had to get a screen.
It was £150 delivered from Germany (to UK).
Its 3 metres diagonal, radio controlled and glass beaded (High Gain 2.3).
The gain of this screen may be too high for a purchased projector as my projector gives out around 700 Lumens so needs the gain to get 3 metres.
The radio control isnt that useful as ithe screen is always in use but did make it easier to set up.

Something to be careful of, each projector has its own throw distance.
This is how far away the projector needs to be from the wall to give a certain size picture.
Some projectors have a long throw distance that will give you too small a screen unless you have room depth to fit it.

1400 lumens is quite bright and will work well for gaming with the curtains closed using a 3 metre painted wall screen.
You will be able to work in Windows with the curtains open but not with sunlight shining on the wall.
If you wish to use the projector in lighter conditions or for a screen bigger than 3 metres, a more powerful projector may be preferable.
Unfortunately, when watching movies or playing dark games, there is no substitute for closing the curtains and turning the lights off so you can resolve the very dark detail.
It also adds to the immersion greatly to have a darker room :)
