Vantec Tornado

wow 70 dBA dam you will hear that on the other side of your house. it should last as long as any other high rpm fan. do you need a 92 mm fan or could you get a 120 mm fan? you can get a 120 that moves the same air thats makes 1/2 the noise
but if you can only get a 92mm fan and don't care about noise that fan will work
what heat sink you want to put it on?

Are you sure noise doesn't matter? 70db is getting up in vacuum cleaner territory. Even if you won't mind, your family/roomates/neighbours/people down the block might :p

120mm fans sound good to me (provided it is above 100CFM).
I was looking at 92mm heat sinks but Ultra-120 eXtreme, which uses 120mm fans, seams better (some say active heat sinks are bad for motherboad).

Hey thax, pls recommend me one ty.

As far as wear and tear.... I ran one nonstop at 12v for about 9 months, and then about 3/4 7v and 1/4 12v for another 2 years before I retired it in favor of something quieter. The durability doesn't seem to be an issue.

the Ultra-120 is a dam good heat sink you don't need 100+cfm fans for it.what case will it go in? as on some cases its to tall to have the side panel on. btw what cpu is it going on and will you be oc it?

As for the case, I'm not sure yet but it will definitely be quite big. I will be using the intel QX6850 and over clock big time. Some say that passive cooling does the motherboard no good (how true?).

I know the QX6850 produces lots of heat but if i use a water cooling, it does me no good, since my room temperature is about 28 degrees Celsius+.

As for the Ultra-120, I think i will use the Panaflo/NMB-MAT 120mm fan.

Btw, I'm looking for a case fan here not a CPU, though I asked if a case fan could act like a CPU fan.

Noise does not matter for me and now, I'm looking at the TD9238H Vantec Tornado (http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1169). It definately has a high CFM but how reliable and how long does it last? Running at 4800RPM, the wear and tear should be high...

Is it possible to become a CPU cooler ? lol...

IF you need or want that kind of power try a DELT FAN, delta has a model with 199CFM and only 60 decibles at 4000rpm.

In both cases delta and the tornado fans are very durable and you should get some good life out of them they are very reliable but as others mention they are also very loud. YES you can put these fans on a heatsink, I recommend using a thermalright SI128 or SI 120.

YOU WILL GET SOME SERIOUS COOLING WITH THEM

I dont recommend using the ultra tower style heatsinks especially with those high speed fans, by using a more traditional blow down on the cpu and motherboard, your board ( which probably has fanless heatsinks) will benefit greatly by blowing the fan downard onto the processor and thereby cooling those fanless heatsinks and motherboard components in that area of your motherboard otherwise using such a high cfm fan is just a waste.

OTOH, it's easy enough to put fans on the northbridge or pwm or whatever, and it's not like they'll be audible over a Tornado.

Exactly what I said, the Tornado made me a fan of silent cooling.

QFT. Loud ass fans aren't a problem until you have them overpowering normal speaking volumes.

"What!?!? Turn off your computer!"

I went through this in a dorm room situation, not fun. :p

Seriously man, the difference from a Torando and something much quieter is slight if you still get a high CFM. :)

Special thanks to conghelach! I'm now getting the full picture of fans

Btw, whats the difference between the SI128 and SI 120? Which cooles better?

Just wondering, why do people choose the Vantec Tornado over delta fans ? Is it because of the price?
