USB extension cable for keyboard + mouse input lag?

I need to use a USB extension cable for my mouse and keyboard to get them to fit onto my standing desk, do you guys know if doing so would cause input lag and degrade performance for competitive shooters like counter-strike?
 
I don't think it'll cause any problems unless you're the kind of person who swears they can feel what difference a 1000hz polling rate makes on your 300hz monitor.

That said, don't cheap out. Cheap usb cables definitely have a potential to mess things up.
 
I've never noticed any lag, even using cheap passive 2.0 cables. You will however run into signal integrity issues at anything over a few meters if you don't get active cables.
