Upgrade suggestions

I have an Athlon 64 3700+, ATI X800XT AGP AIW, 2 gigs of pc3200 in dual channel, asus a8v, win xp pro. I'm aiming for upgrading to something that will yield at least a 2x-3x performance increase in games that should hold future proof for dx10 games for a year or so. I'm not looking for a complete system, just cpu/mobo/gfx card ATX recommendation off of newegg. Budget is preferably $1000 or less. Or should I wait a few months before making this big upgrade. I run everything at 1920x1200 btw. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Alright, so looking at the gigabyte ds3, evga 8800gts 640mb, e6750, 2 gigs of ocz 4 latency pc6400 for $800 on newegg, looks to be a good deal for what I want. Would one think that this setup could last for latest dx10 games on medium-high settings (little or no AA but high AF) at 1920x1200 for a year? Also, is it worth it to get the extra 320 gpu memory, considering the high resolution I run?

Unfortunately, no real DX10 game has come out yet for us to answer that question. The only DX10 content out there are ports of DX9 to DX10. And according to those tests/benchmarks, you need an 8800GTX in order to play those games at 1920x1200. But wait until true DX10 games like Crysis, BioShock, Gears of War, and World in Conflict to come out later this year and then see whether or not to you need to buy an 8800GTX in order to play a DX10 game at the high of a resolution.

Just ordered a gigabyte gs3, e6750 duo, 2 gigs ddr800, evga 8800gtx Should hopefully keep me happy for a while lol

I just noticed something, due to the e6750 having 1333 mhz fsb, and the gs3 only supporting 1066, it seems they are incompatible. Anyone know if this is truly the case, or a possible workaround, or will I need to get a different motherboard?

Though, I agree with Danny... you should have waited. GPUs depreciate the fastest. The new GPUs come out around the same time some DX10 games are due out, so it would have been nice to see how well the current cards really perform in DX10. Its always best to wait for something that makes you upgrade. Anyhow, I hope you get what you wanted out of this build.

There doesn't seem to be any information on the revision, I e-mailed newegg for some clarification and will get the 3.3 one way or another.

From a cost perspective waiting would certainly be the best, money isn't really an issue though, I just don't have the patience and needed an upgrade anyways, plus its always nice to just max everything out on current games without actually worrying about tweaking settings for a best performance/quality ratio. Although I know this setup won't last me forever for dx10 games, it feels like a nice starting point for the first few games that I can expand onto as needed, my agp setup and ddr400 can't really be expanded in this way anymore. Yeah see if you can cancel your order for that motherboard. Thats the wrong DS3 mobo.

The motherboard that Robo recommended was the GA-965P-DS3, not the GA-965G-DS3 which you ordered. The main difference between the two is that the G model has integrated graphics and doesn't overclock that well. Also, the G model doesn't support a 1333Mhz FSB.

Ask newegg if you can change your order to the GA-965P-DS3 instead.

Better yet, change your order to the GA-P35-DS3R instead. The P35 chipset is a newer, more stable chipset than the P965. If its shipped already, REFUSE DELIVERY! Call newegg, they're usually able to catch it before it ships, if you call them and are nice about it.
