I am currently using an "off the shelf" HP Elite 7000 system. i7 processor, 4gb memory, etc. If I read it right, it looks like the power supply is a 425 or 450 watt model. I would like to upgrade my current video card (9600GT) to an nVidia 460, but I am concerned about the power supply not being adequate.

I am rather hoping that the 9600GT, being an older card actually has a bigger power draw than the proposed 460, so it would be fine as is. But, I welcome input from those who are perhaps more in the know, than I am.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I've seen number in a similar system at load pulling about 270 watts. At best the PS in the unit would be 75-80% efficient so you should be fine. That would put you close to your limit so a new PSU should definitely be next on your upgrade list. I'm partial to corsair units but that's another thread.

find out the maker of the PSU. Some of the PSUs from these systems actually aren't half as bad as you think. but yea I would probably upgrade.
