wow. thought i knew what i was doing but really having trouble building my ps3 replacement (sans blu-ray)/mkv/hulu/torrent/server box. I'm confident in my selection of the SG45H E3200 2GB 2TB setup until it's time to choose a coax-in. I've got a medium directional digital antenna that works well enough - yet to buy... 21 miles at 261 degrees catches all networks. About to ditch Cox cable. Looks like a steep cliff.

My current setup is a 2TB iMac running PS3MediaServer and it's time for a change. Can't play 1080p reliably and need "de-centralization" - I lose some movies mid-stream/transcode and boy am I sick of re-muxing.

Any thoughts out there? Forgive the beers I will be more coherent in replies. I hope...

I think he's talking about the iMac...right? no? Seems like it....Why need build a htpc. There's a lot of guides on here to build one for your needs.

thanks for your patience. i'm so sick of my imac/ps3 relationship that i'm pulling the trigger on a server that is a HTPC too and I think I have the right build so I 'm buying it. If I need a PVR I'll use a hauppauge down the road. canceling cable can be scary but I'm ready for it.
