Wow, those are priced very agressively. I would love to see those prices lined up with yonah based on performance. Does anyone have the Core information? Now that both companies' products are out, I think a comparison table is in order.
 
My impression from the release and other annecdotal information is that performance per MHZ will be somewhere between Core Duo and Core Duo 2 (closer to Core Duo 2).

I'm very interested in how it does powerwise as Turion's have always struggled on this specific item when compared to Intel Mobile products.

not really, considering that the TL-60 is only 2ghz. i'll bet anything that these turions are just X2's put into a mobile setting.

it is curious that S1 got "launched" before AM2 though.. and F, the market amd says they care about most, is nowhere to be found
 
AM2 X2's?

They are S1 and support DDR2 which hasn't been done on the laptop side. There has always been some low level differences between the Turions and desktops that allow for the Turion's to have lower power production but also limits their overclockability.

I think there will be more differences between the Small Form Factor AM2 X2's (35 and 65w TDP) and the Turion 64 X2s than the previous generation. We'll have to get them on benches to find out.
 
Chip specs.

I'm a bit dissapointed to not see the full 1mb L2 on any of the chips, but I guess TDP targets win out over that.

The core duos are
2.0 - $423
1.833 - $294
1.66 - $241.

Considering I'd expect the Turion X2s to be slower than similarly clocked Core Duos, AMD's pricing is nice but not great.

i'll be surprised if performance is different from the AM2 counterparts. i really will. but yeah, the amount of cache is somewhat dissapointing.

Look at it another way. The mobile market is where AMD has their weakest product against the best Intel product. Looking at current market products, the only place Intel has a better product is in the mobile market with the Core Duo going against the Turion and the low end dual Core desktop where AMD doesn't have a product.

It makes sense that AMD would present the solution for this market first.

Much higher memory bandwidth though. I haven't seen any numbers, but I'd be surprised if the Core Duo isn't memory starved with such a low FSB speed trying to feed 2 cores. This probably balances the low cache issue.

Looks like AMD went for price instead of absolute performance. Yonah looks like it still holds the mobile performance crown, at the low and high ends. And Yonah LV/ULV still use the least power by far for mobile dual core chips.
 
The Turion TL-56 is a dual-core 1.8GHz part with 2 x 512K cache and dual-channel DDR2-667, running at only 33W for $263.

An Opteron 165 @ 1.8GHz is over $300 and has a TDP around 95w.

I just don't see how you could say that these are not priced agressively.

Not all models are 35w.

The TL-50 and TL-52 both have TDPs of 31W, rising to 33W for the TL-56 and 35W for the TL-60.

I can't presume that the Turion X2s will be slower than Core Duos, I'll have to see benches before I can decide on that as I think their specs should put them fairly even with their different architectures giving wins to both products on price however I see this lineup:

I know I'm mixing two different types of prices (retail versus 1k lots) but it's the best I have.

T2400 - TL-56 = Price competitive
T2300 - TL-52/TL-50 = price competitive/Much lower

Seems like AMD is targeting the high performance $$ limited crowd (young enthusiasts) and the budget audience based on their price comparisons..... just my 2 cents

Not Socket 754 FLECOM sorry.....don't think there will be such a beast ever. Going to have to go 939/940/AM2/S1/SF for dual core AMD action.
 
When are laptops based on these chips going to be available? I really want a 64 bit dual core laptop with a 17" monitor and a full keyboard and keypad to boot!
 
31w sounds mighty tasty, I knew it was just a matter of time till they x2'd the turion's.
 
glad they waited to add dual ddr2 support and didn't rush with a ddr solution only to be replaced by a dual ddr2 one in a couple of months. this is the complete package

I had been waiting for too long for a dual-core vista64 compatible notebook, lets wait for some more models to be shipped now, afaik there is only msi 271 and that is a 12" which is a little small for my work.
 
Wait a minute. S1 is only single-channel ddr2-667, right?

It seems odd that given the move to ddr2, they would only have 512kb cache. You'd think that larger cache sizes would help offset the latency hit from ddr2.
 
Looks good on multithreaded benchmarks though. Interesting stats. Can't wait to see more, especially one in english.
 
Not to mention have you taken a look at the die size comparisons?? Turionx2 with 2x512KB is huge in comparison to the Yonah.

Personally, I'm not impressed. The TL-60 (2.0 GHz) outperforms the T2500 (2.0 GHz) in only two tests: ScienceMark and WAV -> MP3 conversion.

As for price, the TL-60 is currently $354. T2500 is currently $423. But in less than two weeks, Intel cuts it to $294.

Unless a consumer is bent on having 64-bit, Core Duo seems to be the better choice.

The reason the Pentium M and Yonah perform so well on DDR2 is because Intel has MUCH better cache technology than AMD. Not only are Intel's caches smaller for the same capacity, they are also significantly lower latency.

Now that AMD doesn't have low-latency DDR, their performance REALLY suffers. WE;ll have to wait until AMD moves to 65nm before they can afford to add beefier caches and possibly reduce the latency.

Intel is going to have a performance advantage until AMD fixes their cache tech. The future is high-bandwidth and high-latency main memory.

I'm far from an expert, but I'm sorry, that makes no sense.

So why are Athlon64 on DDR2 (AM2) faster than their 939 counterparts (even if the performance increase is small). I don't see any suffering going on.

But yeah, who said an Opteron 165 was $300? They're $277 shipped, so that's like a purchase price of $270, and it has 2x the cache. The pricing isn't terrible, but it's not fantastic either.
