Hi ya'll. I'm building a new pc soon. I'm just gathering all my parts slowly while constantly reading reviews. Anyhow, for the case I've come to the conclusion(hopefully) of either getting the armor or wait for the P182 but it may be pretty expensive. Any ideas of what I should do?
 
Just personal preference.. But I really don't like thermaltake cases. It seems like they just rip off (poorly at that) other brand's cases.

Go with a 900 or Stacker.. avoid the cheap ripoffs. (please dont flame me for my pp).
 
I was considering the 900 but I heard it's tough to manage cables and that its a total dust magnet. I'm trying to get stuff from www.xpcgear.com since my brother's friend works for them and can get me things at whole sale price.
 
Thats a great case! Go for it. I have always lusted after Lian Li cases. I just got a 900, otherwise I would have gotten one.

I don't doubt you. I just don't like how TT rips off case designs. Quality wise, the original is usually better... There's a lot of plastic on an armor.
 
Hmm. Alright. I'll consider that Lian-Li PC-V1000B as well then. The thing is, I've noticed that the mobo is upside down. Will this have any effect on the heat pipes?

Nope.
In theory, it shouldn't do anything out of the normal. Hot air rises.. but I doubt it will have any effect on the board and your components.
 
Hmm. Ok, because I just started reading about this and I started hearing about this so I just want some reassurance.
 
Theres a few threads floating around about it. I remember reading them not too long ago, so look around this subforum and see what you come up with.

I think that this sums up what was said.
-Hot AIR rises, not heat.
-Technically you should get better temps on your videocard with this config.
-Lian Li cases are designed like this for better air flow (putting your hot components at the top next to an exhaust.
-No complaints from the lian users.
 
Hm. Well I've just read that the heat pipes need to have a wick or something called that in order for it to work. I'm planning on getting an Asus P5b deluxe so I'm not sure what the deal is for that when it comes to these type of cases. I hope my Corsair 520w psu would fit in it if I'm dead on getting this.
 
There is a lot of controversy over TT cases but I really enjoyed my Xaser III...lots of features. I'd get the Armor.

How can a tower case with a mesh front be a rip off? It's not like Coolermaster or whoever had the first mesh front on a tower. Thermaltake doesn't rip off cases, there's only so much you can actually do with a premod. Geeze.

that said, I'd get a Lian Li over the Armor, the Armor is way to hard to hide cables in, and I don't like the faux doors in the front.
 
I use a Kandalf.

Its big but I find it hard to hide wires etc

I'm not all that impressed. Wished I had got a lian-li now
 
So try and go for that Lian Li PC V1000? I'm just really worried about the heatpipes on the mobo since it's reverse. Sorry for all the doubting, I just want to make sure any of this is not a miss. If I end up wanting to return it or something I'd cause trouble for my brother's friend when he's already doing something for me you know?Maybe it's a good idea to look at the Lian Li gallery thread?

Kandalf? Looks like a stacker to me.. and don't even say that the kandalf came first, the new model of the stacker has been out for a while now and the kandalf is a new product.

Personally, were I going to get any case other than the Stacker 830 that I have.. it would no doubt be the Silverstone TJ07.

If the TJ07 hadn't been more expensive than the Stacker at the time I'd probably have the Silverstone right now instead.

That said.. I'm super happy with my Stacker.

Of the two you have I'd get the 900. The huge top exhaust is a really nice feature.

I'll also take a moment to point out that the Armor came out way... way before the 900 did. The 900's only been around for like a few months? Maybe 6 or so? The Armor's been around for a damn long time really.
 
Right now the 900 is the 'last resort' case. So far my brother's friend hasn't really been responding actually, so my OTHER brother's friend works at best buy where they have the 900 for 130 bucks. The employee price for it I have yet to find out.
 
wtf? khandalf's been out a year. oh and btw wicking in the motherboard. it depends board to board ive heard. a quick email to asus will sort it :)
 
Alright, I should do that.. but what exactly do I say? Will whatever certain mobo work in this certain case?
 
I am also looking for a case for my new system. Probably full tower to
accommodate large video cards.
My best suggestion is to find the case you like ( after reading a review)
and check it out in person. Many computer stores have them lined up for that purpose.

I liked some TT on paper but when I saw them in person , my attitude changed 100%. Their are cheaply made and some have useless features.
I am talking about those flimsy wings on the front.

What purpose do they serve. Thay do not stay open nor closed they just flip. If you planing to put fan controlers or sound card IO cards in your bays than you have to remove them permanently.

Anyhow, I will save some more money and buy either Lian-Li ( have mid tower pc-68 silver for 5 years now ) or go for Silverstone TJ09.
The quality of lian-li and looks ( simple yet graceful ) appeal to me.
No nonsense here. Easy to mod too. A bit of Dremell action and you can instal side windows ,top fans etc. etc.

Yeah if money was no problem for me I would've bought the TJ09 instantly but since I don't, I can't justify spending that much. I suppose you are right about checking them out in person..because almost all these cases I never seen in person besides the 900 but just the box packaging if that counts. I don't ever plan on using a dremel on cases of that price(..for now). If it was cheaper, I'd have more consideration of the idea. I just want a case that has good airflow, ease of cable management, and that so I don't have to change anything, just keep it stock.

You are right about the money being a problem. But a case is some thing that you buy once or for a very long time ( like mine ) other components you will replace rather quickly ( 1-2 years ) Video cards , DVD players hard drives , sound cards etc etc. But your case will probably stay the same.
So buy what you really want/can afford.

PS: I read reviews (i.e newegg) starting from negative first. If people are running into problems , chances are you will too.

Wow, good to know. I always started out with 'helpfulness' first when reading off newegg then go to negatives so it cancels out all the idiots with no common sense that rate whatever bad.
 
I had the same dillema you did. I couldn't decide between the Armor or the Stacker..
I ended up going with a Stacker.

Maybe if someone has an armor they can persuade to go in their direction.
I couldn't be happier with my Stacker though.

Thats the Stacker 810, the first encarnation of the model. The Thermaltake Armor is TT answer to the CM Stacker 810. The following 830 could of warrented its own lineup. That being said I own the TT Armor BNS (non windowed version) to house my 12 hdd 3.1TB fileserver backup rig. And have experience with the current 830 style models.

Both very nice cases.
Both very heavy

Stacker costs more.
Stacker has a removeable mobo tray.
Stacker has a vent on the bottom
Stacker has a removable & side open switchable door.
Stacker is more accomodating to longer PSU's
Stacker has a built in handle placements

TT Armor holds more drives stock than the 810.
TT Armor flaps are cosmetic.
TT Armor is easier to open panel wise.
TT Armor has longer mobo stand offs that must be used in order to properly align the components.

Though I like my Armor very much, I have to say in terms of features the Stacker 830 has more of them. Though I like my Armor because its cleaner looking. The flaps swing open and close as I bring that system to lans.

Holy crap that comparison of the two cases is crazy. One thing. Are those flaps squeaky or have the problem of swinging freely like some sort of old western bar door?

They can squeak but some 10W40 fixes that, and they only swing freely (about 90 degrees) when carried it in such a way that nothing was holding the flaps in place. The flaps have magnets on them to keep them in the closed or open position but the force of an opening dvd drive tray is strong enough to force them open. Not like a western bar door.
 
Alright, I suppose that is somewhat ok. This is still a pretty hard choice for me still. I'd still probably go with the lian li v1000 but the whole heatpipes and reversed atx is driving me nuts.
 
my armours great. if your going to overclock get the lcs. it has a dual 120mm fan rad and room for 9 HDD'S stock
 
lcs? Also.. I've spent like the last 3 hours or so just reading about the stacker. It is really, really, REALLY tempting for me now. I find building this whole new c2d system already expensive but damn it looks good. For now I'm going to bed and rethink it out again, it's 3:05am as of right now for me.
