as i understand In Remote Admin mode, you are only allowed to make 2 concurrent connections to your server. is there a way to change it to more connections ?

No, if you need more than 2, you'll need to run it in application server mode.

Why more than 2 admin connections?

well i want people to connect to my server [remote desktop] and use one of the programs what do you think my best option is ?
thank you

Run it in Application server mode...

In addition to running in Application Server mode, make sure to buy additional terminal server client licenses. You are only allowed two "free" connections - beyond that Microsoft wants you to pay them.

how would i change to Application Server mode is the a documintation or some thing ?

Remove the Terminals services and reinstall it. (Then in setup you can specify Application or Remote)

Easiest way to reconfigure the server is to go to Start -> programs -> administrative tools -> Terminal Services Configurator
(or through control panel)
Click on server settings -> Terminal Services Mode ( It will cause tell you to Remove/add software)

Remember Application Mode will require you to get licence for your connections (BTW these are very expensive)

Admin are usualy allowed 2 concurent connections with out cal's, anything over that you pay :p

I usually do Per User Licence and just have a Bazilion Devices connect under one user account (for external reasons). ;) For local networks its per device. So Like a bazilion Users can use the same comp.

If you have An OS thats the same as the Terminal Server technicaly thats your cal. You only need cal's when Server OS provides a new "Desktop Version" then on local machine.

Friggen Cal EULA is Confusing as hell.

And by "require" Microsoft really means REQUIRE. Read the licensing options/methods in the online documentation and you'll see what we mean.

Unfortunately there aren't any cheap ways to turn an MS server into a remote multi-user application box, that I know of. Citrix is even more expensive.

But Citrix doesn't suck like Terminal services does. 2k3 is a bit betterk but 2k is pretty pathetic. Altough in a bigger network IE 15+ computers Terminal Services save a lot of cash because now you don't have to dough out cash for Office or any other products that require licence per CPU. but you still get screwed if the App needs Multi user cal and it is multi user app. IE Filemaker

not trying to crap on this thread, but how do you view who is connected on win2k adv server when having it setup as a application server?

You don't ever have to remove and reinstall terminal services to change the mode. All you have to do is step through the Windows Add/Remove Components wizard without making any changes and you will be presented with a choice as to which mode to use.

As far as licensing, it depends on which version of windows you are running terminal services on. For Windows 2000 Terminal Services you have to have a CAL for every device or OS that doesn't currently have a built in CAL. OSes that have an automatic CAL: Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro. Everything else requires an access license.

In Windows 2003 Terminal Services Microsoft changed the licensing so that there are NO embedded or automatic CALs. You have to buy a license for every device or user that is connecting.

Win2k Pro and XP Pro machines have a built-in CAL to access a Win2k Terminal Services Server in Application Server mode?? I didn't know that. Hmmmm I think I'll redeploy two of my remote access boxes now.

Yes, they do. You do still have to have an activated licensing server on the network however. All of your 2K Pro and XP Pro clients will show up under an "Existing Windows 2000 License" category.

hrm when i reinstall terminal server it doesn't ask me if I want application server or not the only thing is asks me if I want to use full security or relax security
