Temp readings?

OK, so I use a program called speed fan for all my temp needs. Its been great and works perfect. Recently I bought an 8800 GTX and to overclock it it requires Ntune from Nvidia. Well I have always saw

CORE

listed in Speedfan and assumed this was my CPU. What else would be listed as CORE? Temps where where I would assume they would be for my CPU, under 40 when IDLE and never really going over 55 under load.

well after installing NTUNE I noticed it listed my CPU temp, and it differed from speedfan. Its like 5 degree's less and when looking at both at the same time they are definately different temps.

Core jumps alot. It could jump from 32 - 50 like righ away and then all of a sudden drop baack to like 39 in a split second. CPU through NTUNE progresses very smoothly dependant on how much CPU is being used.


My question is

What is core? and does it have anything to do with CPU temp?

core = internal sensor built into cpu (hotter then cpu temp displayed by monitoring software as they display external sensors bulit onto the motherboard

new speed fan update reads both temps (core temp and external cpu temp)

SpeedFan 4.31 is available. A lot of users should find this release interesting because of W83627DHG support. Starting with 4.30 new hardware monitor chips are fully supported, like ADM1026, ADT7473, MAX6640 and SCH311x. Added full support for Intel 631xESB and improved support for ICH7-M. Fixed support for other chips and added new advanced settings for some of them. Added full support for the internal temperature sensor from K8 chips on multiprocessor systems. There are several bug fixes and performance improvements too.

you can see in your pic that "temp1" in speed fan matches your ntune software temp for your cpu

So 'temp1' in speed fan you can lable as your cpu, this reading is coming from external temp sensor bulit into you motherboard

oh ya and most people post external cpu temps when the give out there idle and full load temps ;)
