Was there ever any doubt that once your mom and absent dad had adopted Facebook, that it would immediately prove to be uncool? Youtube, Instagram, and Snapchat now hold title to the most popular platforms by the folks that will will running the country in an generation or two, after they move out of their parents house. Pew Research has all the data, and there is a lot of it beyond what we are mentioning here. I did go dig up my MySpace account the other day. Amazingly, still there, and will be cooler than ever in another 10 years. Hi Tom!

This shift in teens’ social media use is just one example of how the technology landscape for young people has evolved since the Center’s last survey of teens and technology use in 2014-2015. Most notably, smartphone ownership has become a nearly ubiquitous element of teen life: 95% of teens now report they have a smartphone or access to one. These mobile connections are in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now say they are online on a near-constant basis.

This story still?

Yeah, they're all going to another thing Facebook owns.

Social media is the single greatest experiment in social engineering since the dawn of man. It's also startlingly effective.

You have to make your society stupid and reckless first... then it works great.

I seem to recall Myspace failing because Facebook was more "adult" friendly while Myspace was used by more teens.

If that's the case then those teens will eventually make their way to Facebook when they get older.

If my theory is correct at least.

That's a good point.. Personally I don't think that will happen tho, the landscape has changed drastically compared to the simpler myspace glory days. Social media has grow into an on-going social experience, for one, expiring images/video that get people to share things that they wouldn't post on their profile feed. Facebook has been the least engaging in this feature, tho Instagram (facebook owned) is thriving from it.

I recently quit Facebook and no longer have a business page on facebook either since it requires a user profile to manage. With teens not caring so much for facebook, the limitations of facebook, and the data accusations as well as privacy rumors.. no, conspiracy.. of their app that everyone talks about spying on their phone and all... Facebook just comes off like an uncool sinking ship. :\ Yeah they have the accounts, but most of the accounts aren't actively used..

The question I have is, how will social media come back to haunt these kids? It already hurts adults who posted stupid stuff and was found out years later. I can just imagine what it will do to teens. Who here doesn't look at some of the stuff you thought as a teen as being remarkably idiotic?

All that stupid stuff is becoming the social norm, so I think it will hurt less than you believe as the young people who do said stupid stuff take over.

Yeah, Western Society is doomed.
