Hi all,

I built entire new system with the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC 3200
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe - ZALMAN 92mm as HeatSink - bios upgraded to 10015)
PNY GeForce 7800 GT 256MB
Ultra 600w X-Finity Power Supply
36gig Raptor as primary.

Plugged everything together, turned it on, and right away i saw artifacts on the screen, even in Bios. While installing windows it got worst. After everything was done, and drivers were installed, i saw the following.
Tried different drivers: 81.95 and 81.94, both had same effect. I also used second PCI-E slot to make sure it's not the mobo.

I returned the PNY 7800GT card, and got eVGA 7800GT card. I plugged it in to the same windows install and saw small artifacts. I made nothing off it and reinstalled windows.
Everything went smoothly, nforce drivers, and all.
When trying to install graphics Drivers 81.85 in the middle of the install the installation process looked like it crashed, and screen started to flicker. I went to Safe Mode, and uninstalled the drivers, tried 81.84. With those drivers, my screen went black, and neve recovered. So i tried to install gfx drivers without nforce, drivers, but same thing.
I went all the way back to 77.77 version, but same thing happened.

So my question is.

What is the problem, would that be a second GFX card i received, or a power supply?
I'm not sure, and have no idea what else to do.

and becasue of the damn TWU strike in NY i can't really go to a friends house to test anything.

Edit: Also here i sthe voltage reading from bios.
Vcore: 1.36V
3.3V voltage @ 3.31V
5V @ 5.05V
12V @ 11.77V

Silly question, but when you said you plugged everything in, I assume you made sure the video card had its power source plugged in as well?

Very strange that more than one card is doing that.

I would say that since you've tried two new video cards, then they are not the issue. Most likely a motherboard, monitor, or power issue. It almost looks like signal interference, like on a television. Are you sure its not an issue w/ your monitor?

Yes, power is plugged in, and everything was on. as well as 12V 4 pin molex off PSU to Mobo.

Power to the card was on as well.
Also i don't think it's my monitor, since I tried CRT and LCD monitor, and I had same issue.

I just returned my PSU, i'm not sure if it's bad, however since I can return it with no charge, i'm going to get a new one, if that doesn't work I'll go with MOBO swap.

Thnx for the help tho..

Most likely a PSU problem if replacing the videocard didnt help. I recently fixed a coworkers PC with the same symptoms by replacing the PSU.

I just got new PSU, and same thing happened.
I'm gonna order new motherboard, and return this one as bad.

I hate waiting, and now i have this system for over a week, and can't use it:(

OK, First of are you using the NVIDIA official drivers? If "YES" is the answer I can maybe help you. For some reason ALL NVIDIA official drivers lockup on me during the install process (just at the point it detects SLi) I hit the reset button, load windows again, and just install the driver again, and all works great. I just got done installing the new 81.98 driver, and had to do this procedure I just told you. After deleting yor old driver with Drivercleaner, reboot into safe mode make sure sure all previous drivers traces are gone, then continue with what I told you.

Darn, sorry the PSU didn't fix it either. I know you already RMA'd the board, but just for reference, did you connect the power plugs as described below? If I recall, that 4-pin Molex connector is only for an SLI configuration. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't plugged the PSU into that in the event you were only running one card. See below for what I'm referring to.

I sure hope the new motherboard fixes your problem though! It always sucks waiting for computer parts.

_Durandal_, Yes I did connected both power cables, 24 pin and 4pin, as well as Graphic card was connected to the power.

NVIDIA official drivers were installed, i even moved to 77.77, with no luck. It happened few times whe installing diferent drivers, instead of screen going black, it starts to flicker, and I see installation window, but nothing going on. I reset, and screen does not go back, unless i go to safe mode and uninstall the drivers I used.

I'm purachasing Gigabyte K8N PRO-SLI board, and hopeflly this fixes the problem.

If not, i'm buying a baseball bat, and recording session. No worries, i'll post it on online!

Thnx for your help. Wil update once i get the part.

Have you tried testing with a reputable PSU? Ultra isn't exactly a quality brand...really, they make pretty shitty PSUs.

Many people don't like Ultra, but that is what I have and its extremely stable and reliable for me. I also have the same mobo that you just ordered and love it.

Good luck!
