Suspected DNS problem.

I've got this problem on some of one computers where after the computer is left unused for a period of time > 1hr or so, it can't access any web pages. Reason i suspect it must be dns is that using ip address in the ie address bar works and azuresus still works fine. Using a netgear dg834 with latest firmware. Any thoughts or solutions? TIA

what do you do to get it to load web pages again? reboot? what happens when you run nslookup after the problem has started, and then type in the name of a site (ie- www.google.com)?

Yes to view web pages i have to reboot. Just tried nslookup and it seems to fix the problem, opened ie, tried loading a page and it failed, ran nslookup, then opened ie again and it worked.

Sure you don't have any spyware?

Also, google dns servers, manually add in a ton of DNS servers. I've found my local (regional) DNS server does not update as frequently as it needs to, often several sites will not work. After I added a few other DNS servers, my problems disappeared.

what did nslookup say though? what DNS server is your machine supposed to be using? if it is the dlink router then try setting it to the DNS server your ISP provides- you can find this in the dlink management interface where it tells you what the external IP of the router is. see if the problems persist.

Its a netgear dg834 i'm using, set automatically using my isp's dns servers. For the moment however the problem seems to have gone away. Can't explain it at all. Maby something at the isp end.
