hi. i have been a member here for a while now, and I am now registered to start school in a few weeks. I need a laptop bad, but I am kinda cheap, well, I guess I just want to get the best deal. Are there companies (other than dell?) that offer student discounts? I am looking at dell right now, but I just want to make sure I have all the bases covered when Im looking around. Im not sure of my budget right now, but Im sure my dad will help me on financing since I dont have a credit card.

Apple has some good student discounts, they have a pretty high emphasis on education.
 
hp does as well. When I started school I got a nice HP laptop on sale / with educational discount.
 
Dell, Apple, HP, Gateway used to, don't know if they still do...

Keep in mind you aren't going to be saving that much, margins on computer hardware are pretty slim, like 10% at the most, but still, every little bit helps I guess.

The huge discounts for academia are in software.
 
You should check with your school. My school has discounts with Apple, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
 
HP gets you $50 off as far as I know. Prefer it over Dell because Dell's educational discount doesn't include any deals running (like free CDRW upgrade, free memory upgrade, etc), so most of the time, their education section costs more after you upgrade it to similar specs as the Home and Office equivalent
 
They are offering 1GB nano's for 129 in the student section

I hate apple but that is a good discount (not really a good DEAL since apple already overpriced it)
