Strange Freezing Problems. Care to help?

Alright, so I just picked up a newer system (for me at least), and now it is giving me fits.
I am not sure what the deal is, but I have exhausted the knowledge of a few friends and myself, and I am not sure where to go next. So I chose the hard forums. haha

Now here is the problem. I make it into windows usually, but within a short period of time the computer will freeze. If I turn down the ram speeds, it lasts a bit longer but still freezes after awhile. All four sticks are mem-tested and came out clean. The CPU runs between 30-35C at normal messing around load. The PSU is not terribly hot and does not seem to be in trouble. Its a 500w Thermaltake Purepower.

I (we) were focusing on the RAM before....but to me it seems like something has to be overheating. Upon checking the NB heatsink, it has obviously been removed but upon freezing I can leave my hand on it and its not insanely hot.

Any ideas? I will be gone for about 3 hours. Thanks for any ideas/help in advance!

edit -- using the windows 7 RC. All voltages stock, nothing overclocked.

Also, the system had been running flawlessly for about 2 days, and then it died. After this, I had some freezing issues and worked in the BIOS for a long time, and basically ended up underclocking the ram and it was stable for about 2 more days of prime95 among other things including games. Then, random freezes again. It is a strange strange situation...

Sure- give us the ram brands and part numbers. Can you remove 2 sticks and reset cmos and it work ok?
 
I had a similar problem. Systems can be finicky about mixing ram of different sizes and manufacturers and speeds. Even which slots u use matters.

Even if I took out the other sticks (whether it be the 1gb sticks or the 512 sticks) I would continue to get the freezing problem. The time I get in windows varies, however.

I realized i didnt answer the second posts question very well. No matter which sticks I have in the board I never have been really able to keep it stable. No matter the ram (which remember all passed memtest). Underclocking it makes my system slightly more stable but not for very long.

One of the main problems with me is that I dont have a ton of extra cash and/or extra parts to test. I dont really have more ram and I have no extra PSU or video card. Makes things harder :)

The Ultra PC3500 Golden Dragon DC memory is rated to run at 433 MHz with memory timings of 2-3-3-6, and is rated to run at between 2.5-3.1V.


The geil is rated to run at 2.5-3-3-6, and is rated to run at between 2.6V - 2.75V.

If these modules are on "auto", you will have freezing/lockups. You would manually have to set the voltage and timing for these to work together, if at all.

Seperate testing and tweaking should yield you a happy medium that will both work in.
 
upon looking at those ram stats, i am not sure if running the 512 mb sticks are even worth messing with.

and i think i just found the solution, had more uptime than usual this go-around.
used everest and saw some insane drops in voltage. i was sad cuz PSUs suck, but then a friend of mine said something about a bios setting about cool n quiet or some stupid stuff, which windows automatically turns on if its on "auto"

seems to be working right now, i swear if this is the problem....

currently running just the two 1gb sticks...

Yea the ram is 100% error free ran memtest as well before i handed it off to you. The NB Heatsink was removed due to insane temps and it basically almost burned your finger when touching, unfortunately when removing it the cheap white pins broke and i had to use the ghetto system i left on it but temps were almost 30% better with some new as5. I always added +0.3V to the rams voltage because like GW said they are 2 rams with different voltage setting requirements and never had a problem. I always turned off C&Q on the system cause i ran into some instability when overclocking on the system that could be it but who knows.

This is indeed weird since i left the rig on from monday to late night tuesday testing it to make sure being in storage did not mess something up. Also have you tried out the 7600gs? or have not had time to get a heatsink for it?

Let me know if you have any questions, This concerns me since the rig was 100% stable when i tested it, granted it was only on for about 34 hours.
