i just bought an onkyo tx8511 amp for my speakers. when i have them plugged in i barely get ANY sound out of the speakers...i have to turn the receiver all the way up to get any sound at all. any ideas of what the problems could be? i think the problem might be because of my wiring...it is pretty cheap and i will be replacing it...but i want to know if there are any settings on the receiver that might be doing it.

thanks in advance.

Is the mute on?

Sometimes the mute button is really just a make it really quiet button, and you have the problem you are describing.

i'm sure the mute is not on... im starting to think this thing just isnt working....

check all your wiring again sometimes if you cross wire your speakers they will do that. and is the amp powerful enough to drive them. though to make that happen you would need some seriously inefficient, gigantic speakers.
