Does anyone know if FF7 actually works in Win7?

If they offer that title this week, I believe I may just have to purchase it.
 
And probably will not be due to it's incompatibility. I doubt they will ever officially fix this. But I think there are some user generated patches to fix it.
 
I got Batman AA through the GFWL sale last year, but at $7.50 I am tempted to get the GOTY edition and have things in Steam.
 
I've passed on it for too long, I'm gonna have to bite on this.

ive done that... i own a game but steam has a supersale and i buy it so i can have them all in one spot...

Was checking out the thread for this on SD's and someone mentioned the GOTY edition can only be installed 4 times unlike normal stream games. Any merit to this or is this guy talking out his ass? (per usual SD's comments) I format my main machine way to many times if this is the case plus I've got 4 computers in the house this would go on.
 
Do you think I can run this with all the bells and whistles cranked up at 1200x1600 min with my X2 5000+ @ 3.1Ghz and HD4890 4 gigs ram, WinXp? This is just a DX9 game correct? Can't remember? If not I have a Vista drive for DX10 games. I know the 4890 is ok, just not sure about the ancient X2 CPU.

How much will I miss out on without PhysX as well? Worth waiting for? Will be doable with my future build. Not like I have to play it now, defiantly no shortage of games to play... :D

Edit: I think I remember now, this is a Unreal Engine 3 game, so DX10 if I want anti-aliasing right?

Considering the backlog of games I already have, that's enough to kill this deal for me. If I could expect to play it any time soon, I'd probably have bought it anyway though.

On a related note, wasn't there a somewhat recent change to the DMCA that made it legal to crack/bypass DRM for things you legally own, or did I dream that? When I was a teenager I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but I try to play by the book these days.

Rocksteady is working on the follow up "Arkham City" w/ Hugo Strange as a the main baddie...should be pretty badass.

Those bitching about the DRM need to do their research. Eidos provides a revoke tool and the 4 activations are PER machine, NOT lifetime.
Face it people it's only going to get worse for PC gaming, if your so dead set against DRM just go buy a console and be done with it...

OK, so if you can get over the machine activation thing (there's a deactivation thing out there...somewhere), this is well worth your $8. I've read that people think it's the best Batman game ever, and I'm likely to agree with them on that.

Batman AA is indeed the best batman game ever but overall the Square Enix catalog is just chock full of absolutely the worst games available. I mean, ridiculous steaming toss that you will be sorry you even wasted the time to test out, much less the money it cost. There are a few gems to pick out but the catalog as a whole is TRASH. Avoid at all costs. 90% of the catalog is either totally awful or extremely mediocre, and this coming from someone who owns the catalog already from a previous sale that was better than this one...

High quality gems: Batman, Deus Ex 1, Hitman games, Just Cause 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Mini Ninjas is cutesy and ok for kids... but almost everything else is either totally banal or bad beyond belief.
 
The only game from the pack that I even remotely want is the deus ex games. But I always resist buying because I have bought the first one twice already, and both times it never worked and would bug out on the first level, making it so I was unable to continue.
 
I'll buy just about any game for $7. Even one I already own on ps3.

To clarify: the limit resets every month and steam also gives the de-activation tool in the section where dedicated servers are launched from (not the games list, but the tools list or whatever it's called).

This isn't a problem unless you want to install it on all of your computers and your buddies' computers all at the same time.

Whats annoying is I can't install it on every computer I own... Granted I do have 4 gaming capable desktops and one laptop that would probably not play at all but still, kinda annoying. I may snag it though.

Tomb Raider Legend, Underworld, and Anniversary are good games. Infernal is kind of dumb, but for the $1 I paid for it a couple years ago its not bad. Last Reminiscent is an interesting, although flawed title. Worth looking at if they actually knock it down to $10 or $15. I need to play more of them, but I liked when I played of both Battlestations games. Outside of that its an interesting mix of titles. Nothing insultingly bad (aside from Front Mission Evolved), but nothing really great either. There are publishers with far worse catalogs on Steam.

Mostly right about Tomb Raiders and Battlestations those are the somewhat mediocre exceptions -- not bad, not great, some will like more than others.... except I'd say Infernal is insultingly bad, and you didn't mention Shellshock 2, Conflict, Snowblind, Order of War, or the abominable the Kane and Lynches especially 2. Those are all terrible, awful titles not worth installing much less paying money for. And Front Mission really deserves some extra hate, doesn't it?

Like I said, the buck I paid for Infernal was worth it. I look it like I do movies like 2012. Turn your brain off, enjoy the stupidity for a couple hours and move on. I have played far worse titles over the years. Snowblind is part of the interesting category. Neat ideas, really bad execution. The others are bad, but eh I wouldn't call them horrible. Kane and Lynch yeah, ok those are pretty terrible. Front Mission deserves all the hate it can get.

You should have played snowblind when it came out. A gigantic ripoff of deus ex (rumor was they tried to get the rights to publish it as a Deus Ex world title, like a spinoff or something, but got denied). I had to review that nonsense and I'll never forget the experience.

It's ALWAYS been legal to bypass the copy protection on a game you legally own. Anyone that tries to stop a paying customer from being able to play a game he bought, can be taken to court and sued for a LOT of money. It's already been proven (years ago; I don't remember the details) that those EULA's that you find in game packages are not legally binding at all. There was even a case where a COUNTRY sued a company over some legally binding crap (come to think of it, I think it was Germany suing Valve?)

That's why no one has EVER been prosecuted for using a nocd crack, and why sites like GCW have never been shut down. GCW has been up for what, over 10 years now?

But yeah if a game is NOT native to steam, and you run into an activation limit and can't get more activations without jumping through hoops or having to toss cash or phone bills, go download the crack and tell the game companies to blow it outtta their ass duke nukem style.

the intellectual property belongs to them, but that only means that YOU CAN'T DISTRUBUTE THE GAME. But if you want to go through Hitman, and turn every single enemy with a gun into a super mario bros. happy face cloud with a flower, YOU CAN DO THAT and they can't do a single thing about it. It's your game on your computer, but their IP. You can mod and change stuff in the game all you want. You just can't distribute it.

It does in Windows XP compatibility mode with the XP patch (was made for Windows 95 lol), however it's not for sale anymore really, you can only find used copies or new for £100+.

I actually play FF7 on W7 32bit with no issue so far. This is with emulated Drives on a netbook though and I'm only on the first disc.

You are talking out of your ass. Its one thing to be able to circumvent the copyright protection of the game, another to sue the developer for putting in copyright protection. The first you are allowed to do, the second has never resulted in monetary damages being paid. EA was sued in a class action lawsuit for using Securom on Spore and not informing customers of what it does in the EULA. EA changed some of the policies associated with Securom (allowing more installs), but no monetary damages have been paid out to date. The case may still be tied up in the court system, or it may have thrown it. I can't seem to find any information beyond the initial lawsuit being filed. It was a 2008 case, so its probably been thrown out.

I think he meant that if they "came after you" for circumventing the copy protection to play a game that you purchased, not simply having the copy protection on the game itself.
