Starfield

This past weekend was.... interesting.

I like to create challenges to see if I've still got the reflexes and know-how to survive. The last challenge was to use just one weapon with a limited amount of ammo and meds to clear a base and refrain from picking up any weapons or ammo. For this one, chose a legendary silenced Kraken and 400 rounds. Playing on normal difficulty. So, off we go!

Hit up a forgotten base, sneaking around, taking out Eclipse left and right. Down to the last dude who is at hairline health and run out of ammo. Shit. Health bar dropping as he is peppering me. Run away and take cover in the barracks.

Out of meds, out of ammo and looking to see what I've got in inventory to use to drop him. All I've got is a few food items. Then, I remembered that I can pick up items and throw them. Ok, ok, we got something.

Drop a potato on the ground, pick it up, hold and head towards his last position. Found him and he's unaware of where I'm at. Aim, hold the throw key for five seconds and toss. Smacked him in the head and he keels over. Sumbitch! It worked! Didn't get any EXP but that is OK. God I love this game. :D

Hi guys. Do you recommend me this game to buy if i like bethesda shooters? Game also is not cheap. I have now xbox sx. Waiting for new pc. thx

If you're talking about the recent Doom games, those were made by id software - since the same conglomerate owns multiple studios the logos on the loading screen might make you think it's the same development team, but it's not.
While the gunplay in Starfield is pretty decent for an RPG, it's nowhere close to actual FPS games like Doom and liking one will in no way indicate you like the other.

Starfield is an RPG, Doom is an FPS, completely different genres.

Starfield's combat as an FPS can best be described as "serviceable".

I’m far more interested in reading about you ‘living out of a suitcase’ than I am in reading about this disjointed, soulless game. LOL.
My old landlord basically kicked me out of my apartment to renovate it while I was in the hospital recovering from being electrocuted by a power line at work. I should actually be dead and it was a miracle that I'm not. The line was in the range of 7500v to 10000v and all I had were small burns on my hands and feet. I also don't remember a few hours before and a couple days after.

Jeez that's scary i'm glad you're okay

you should have listened to your forum username and been more 'Safe and Effective'... :watching: but seriously I'm glad you're OK...stay away from live power lines

Well I can't argue against that. We went through a ton of safety training after the dust all settled. We learned how many things we were doing wrong that are dangerous. I'm now trained to be safe and effective.

You can extend that to the rest of the game to. Story, RPG aspects, graphics. I tried the Ryujin quest line, the last one left, but 4-5 missions were essentially go here, do a conversation or lock picking mini game. That was all they were. The other faction quests were better, and maybe this one gets better but the first 4-5 missions were so basic and terrible I stopped playing it.

Just to add I was living out of a suitcase because my old landlord had a friend with a shoe box for a room available. I had to be there for 6 months but now I'm living in a nice big house out in the sticks of Jersey. I can finally dive back into some Starfield, Fallout or elder scrolls

Why not play games that are legitimately great , instead of bethesda's mediocre slop?
I do both. There's a fun I have with modding and playing bethesda games. Let's say it's like going to Wendy's or McDs instead of whatever good local restaurant I have access to. I do both and each one gives me a different level of pleasure and satisfaction.

Personally i'm looking forward to playing cyberpunk 2077 with the expansion when I can build a system that will run it well at 4K,that is what a first person combat futuristic should be. DItto retrying NMS. These two games have aged like fine wine.

I like Cyberpunk but it is a big empty world without enough interesting side thing to do. I don't compare it to Bethesda games but GTA and it doesn't live up to the way you can get lost in GTA. NMS I love but at the same time the lack of narrative focus can make you lose interest easily. Don't get me wrong I love nms but it's easy to burn out quick without a personal goal in the game.

I'm going to approach NMS as a sight seeing experience , since i'm not into ggrinding resources and mining. What hello games have done with it just looks extraordinarily impressive , so I'd like to experience that.

I found night city a pretty interesting city to go exploring in and that was back in the first 6 months of release. So I imagine it's absolutely fantastic now. the writing and the charactersare some of the best i've ever seen in a video game. the combat and vehicle driving was pretty damn good too.

Unless they changed it, NMS makes you grind and mine just to keep from dying on the starter planet, and then you have to do the same just to get your ship working to leave that planet.
The game was mostly about resource gathering the last I played it.

I disagree. It may not be the most detailed and dynamic open world game, but it is one of the better ones. There are more naturally occurring side gigs that are quite well done and small references naturally in the world that reflect outcomes of some past missions. Example, on the radio I heard about the affects of one of the side gigs I completed, it had to do with someone's political campaign. Watson was one district that was quite lame, without many good side gigs, and a lot of more generic cyber psychosis encounters. But if you go to some of the other ones there are more interesting things that come up. Compared to most open world games, I felt like it had more depth in the city.

Starfield on the other hand feels bland in comparison. It may be a Bethesda game but the mission design and constant back and fourth mission design just sucks at times.

I recall there being a creative mode that removes the need to grind in order to survive.I would play that mode

With DarkStar Manufacturing, decided to a bit of an upgrade on the Hard Target sniper rifle. Just a little bit... :D

Agreed with this statement. Despite the taking cover actions and other implemented actions, also realizing that I'm a honorably discharged Marine, the enemy is stupid; for the most part. There have been times where I'm attacking a PoI (Point of Interest) and one or two enemy attempt to circle around to get the drop on me. For that I applaud Bethesda adding that to their AI profiles. Otherwise, it's a pretty much a turkey shoot.

Finally, damnit. Got the last Steam achievement. Now on to getting the supply chain established. Added a mod which allows for 40 outposts. Backed-up my saves in the event 40 is too much for the game engine to handle.

I used a console command to set the outpost cap to 999 if you want to avoid an esp mod or whatever.
Ended the game with around 30 total.

Will play it but the mission design needs to be a lot better. Flying back and fourth for a conversation is just outright annoying and boring. Also, have they not heard of radios or other types of remote communication? Flying from many solar systems away just to talk to someone for 2 minutes was just so uncreative. Its like they didn't design the game around the setting (space with advanced technology) and carried over game design from their other games (post apocalyptic world with no infrastructure or fantasy game where radios were not yet invented).

It's too late for me.
Guess I will just have to be satisfied with over a 1000hrs of gameplay that I will wring out of it + mods, oh the sweet mods.
Just like ES3/ES4/ES5/FO3/NV/FO4.

REV-8 is fun to drive. And, run over hostiles with.

Will be pre-ordering Shattered Space. I wouldn't normally do a pre-order but I'm having a lot of fun with Starfield as I did with Fallout 4.
Unless preorders come with a bobble headed figure of Todd Howard whispering his sweet little lies at the push of a button, there is no reason to preorder
