Star Fox 64 Remake.

I'm pumped.

We've needed a no-bullshit, no-gimmick star fox game for 20 years.

It's inspired by, not a remake from what I saw. It's supposed to be brand new.

that article says its a remake...

I want to be interested in this, but I just know they're gonna make it $60-70.

Also, the new character designs are...just weird.

Its not going to be $70+. Going to be $50 digital and $60 physical. I think it should of been a $40/50 game.

A bit disappointed its another remake. It looks really pretty, but the levels are 1:1 remake of Star Fox 64. I bet Nintendo has a bunch of these remakes in the "Vault".

I do like the character redesign, and yeah, my first thought were the puppets from the old games. And really happy they didn't use that anime look from the Mario movie (thought for sure thats what it was going to look like.)

Also, Slippy doesn't sound nearly as annoying as he did previously (or I'm getting more patient).

Interested, buy why another remake? It shouldn't be hard to make a space shooter game like this. And no on foot BS. Doesn't even have to be in a linear fashion, there can be more maps that allow you to fly around and neutralize areas.

Problem is I need a Switch 2, and I don't really want one for $500+.

I think it just does not translate well in the modern era. Once graphics moved away from 2D or low polygons, the characters in games like Starfox look downright creepy.

I'm in for $60 prolly, but fully expect it to be $70. I haven't played the original since that era and think it looks great other than the odd looking character models. I'm digging the N64 controller support too and also mouse controls could also be good. Despite being a remake, the gameplay experience looks new enough to be considered a new game to me, and they're adding new content and challenges as well.

If it's more than $60, I'll just borrow it from my local library like I did for DK Bananza, Link's Awakening, and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.

You're really not going to want one for $600+ later this year then.

They edited the article with further info, including that, after I posted it :). You're right, it indeed is a remake.
If you watch the trailer and have played/remember Star Fox 64, it's extremely obvious. There might be some changes here and there but most of it was instantly recognizable to me. I played the shit out of that game on the N64.

Yeah, I recognized every level as well. I hope they add at least one extra level/planet or something to the game though.

It would be cool if they emphasized rumble support somehow too, since SF64 is what debuted the rumble pack on N64. It was such a gimmick, and still is really, but I loved that feature of the original game.

The 3DS remake of Star Fox 64 was good, but sure, I'll take another. Not that I have a Switch 2. But after how Star Fox Zero turned out, the IP needs a win, even if it's rehashing an old game with a shiny coat of paint (for the 2nd time).

I was just thinking to myself recently that Star Fox Assault is the only game in the series I haven't played, and that maybe I should finally check it out. Not expecting great things, but nothing beats getting your own hands-on time. I've heard people talk about it for many years. I should see for myself what it's really like.

Ugh, I love Starfox64 too much for it to not be a day one purchase. Damn Nintendo..

Was thinking the exact same thing. It looks great, but I have probably played through this game more than any other game. It should not be hard to make a new Star Fox game.

I wasn't even aware of the 3DS version, lol. I just loaded it up on my sons hacked New 3DS XL and it is def pretty nice, esp. with the gyro controls. I'm just now learning of a ton of games that were ported to the 3DS, like another one was a port of the original Resident Evil - RE: Deadly Silence that actually adds some new gameplay mechanics and content to the original game as well, which is pretty cool.

I think my biggest issue with the designs isn't entirely that they look odd, but they just look bored. They barely emote, and literally do just look like puppets.

I didn't watch the 15 minute trailer within the 6 minutes between our posts. ;) I tend to look for written info first. This time, it lied! :p

I too played the heck out if it back in the day. I might buy this once I'm done with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, but I'll probably wait for a sale.

Last year I got the native PC port of Star Fox 64 (https://github.com/HarbourMasters/Starship, from the same crew who ported Zelda OoT, Zelda MM, and Mario Kart 64 to PC) and I've been messing around with it this year. Some nice shiznit. I played the game to death on N64, played the first remake a shit-ton on 3DS, and now here I am messing around with the PC port of the N64 version. And then Nintendo is like "here's yet another version of Star Fox 64!" but I'll have to check it out at my buddy's house cuz I don't have a Switch 2.

Yeah, I played a few of the PC N64 decomp games as well recently and they're awesome!

Game is going only going to be $50 for digital ($60 for physical) surprisingly - https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/star-fox-switch-2/

I fully expected them to charge $70 for it. So this will be an insta-buy for me.

Walmart and Amazon have the physical pre-order for sale at $50, too. This price shows when added to cart.

The characters make me feel uncomfortable for some reason. starfox was always one of my top faves though.

The characters make me feel uncomfortable for some reason.

I remember when I followed Azureth into that MLP forum a lot of the posts there explained how uncomfortable Bronies were with anthropomorphic animals at first. Of course, that discomfort would transform into something else later on.

8bitdo has a N64 controller that works on Switch 2 with a modern ergonomic design. I have a white one for N64 emulation and it's great. You can get it in classic grey directly from them for $5 more.
