I finally got stalker to run on my computer, don't know how but when i first put my 8800gts in it would not run, one day i tried it and vola, it works. Anyway, i've been playing all week long, love the game but have some questions hopefully some [H]'ers can help me with.

1. Is there a way to carry more weight? Maybe a upgraded backpack? Strength enhancers?
I get tried of having to drop guns or ammo so I can walk, the problem is, I need the gun or ammo lol.

I had more but I forgot lol, i'll reply back if I remember.

1. There is no way to increase your carrying limit above 50 kilograms. Can you imagine what it would be like to lug around 100 pounds in a backpack.. and sprint with that sort of weight?

2. The first time I've played STALKER, I was a massive packrat that collected and (attempted) to sell everything. The game does not reward you for doing so. I can't stress this enough, as it was successful on my second play-through.

Only carry what you need.

Nothing more, nothing less. Following that motto will keep your weight somewhere between 20 - 30 kilograms at all times.

You're allowed a maximum of :

Body armor
Two assualt rifles (with 3 magazines per rifle)
One pistol (100 rounds or less, depending on how often you whip it out.)
Enough medkits to last
10 bandages
One portion of food

Anyway, good luck. ;)

I personally try to carry two rifles, the Vintar silenced sniper rifle and the VLA assault rifle (currently anyway), which use the same ammunition. There is also a VLA assault rifle which uses AK ammo, which I used to carry with the fast firing AK with a scope.

Just a hint, when you find a NPC who sells ammo, if you buy out all the guy has in stock, you can quicksave, then quickload and the NPCs ammo will be back in stock. I usually do this at the duty weapons vendor in the bar area, until I have around 1000 rounds, then I head out into the zone.

Thanks for the advice.

My problem is I keep running out of ammo, so i constantly have to change weapons. I'm currently carrying 3-4 assault rifles, 1 shotgun, 1 pistol, tons of medkits/bandages, a few artifacts, 1-2 portions of food and 5-6 anti-radiation kits. My weight hovers between 49kg and 59.9 kg, depending on the amount of ammo i'm carrying.

My favorite weapon is hard to find ammo for, so i have to carry that, 2 weapons that uses the standard NATO round (one is lightweight and weighs 2.7kg), which have been hard to find as of late, sniper rifle and the trusty shotgun with 70 shells in case I run out of everything else. (it has saved my ass more than once).

I don't consider myself a packrat as I have more than enough RU to last me, I just find it hard to survive with the weapons and scarce ammo.

Draxx,
Didn't know that, not sure who your talking about, the barkeeper doesn't carry the NATO round. The scientist does, but thats a haul just for ammo.

There is a guy from Duty, alone in a house in the bar area (I will have to check exactly where tonight in-game), who sells ammo for the VLA assault rifle. I dont think you have to be friendly with Duty to talk to him, as last night the Duty guys finally turned green to me, and I had been buying ammo from the guy previous to that.

Hmm, I'll have to look for him. (not sure what the green means, the only people thats been green to me are the freedom guys)

Green on radar is friendly. If you are green with freedom, its likely that Duty guys are red to you, and will try to kill you on site.

you can carry over 50kg, your endurance time gets quickly reduced though. the cant move limit is about 59kg.

Stick with 2 weapons with you max, try for just one when entering a known zone. Figure out the dominant weapon in a zone and carry something matching its ammo type, or try to have 1000 rounds going in.

I am a pack rat and carry 1 gun, 1000rnds 5.45x45 ammo, max 10 med kits, 40+bandages, 6 food, 8+rad med, and any artifact I can. (currently about 12). After using med kits and stuff I can end a objective run with 1-2 new guns + artifacts.

There are mods out there that will allow you to carry alot more, But really its up to you to decide weather thats the path you want to go. I just do as the romans do, if everyone is using the AK then i use the AK, I do carry a sniper rifle with me and grenades are your friend.

There are mods you can download to cheat the weight limit and ruin the game if you want.

The Exo-skeleton suit later boosts your carrying capacity.

I installed the mod from filefront for 150kg limits and end up carrying 70-80kg at most times. I frequently switch between a shotty, rifle, sub, sniper and pistols just for the heck of it mostly. I prefer the 150 kg limit as it allows me to just loot bodies by clicking take all and then sorting it out when I find some loners playing the guitar in a quiet spot :)

My first time through I also tried to carry everything I could. There's really no point. One rifle (two once I found the Dragunov), one pistol, and as many frags, medkits, radiation kits and bandages as I could find is sufficient. You really don't need to carry food, just eat it as you find it and you'll be ok. You'll always find more weapons and ammo. The only tough decisions are when you find the rare weapons.

I carried the RPG-7 around for about half the game, and never ended up using it. I could have, but didn't want to waste the two precious rounds I had for it. That sure was a waste to lug around everywhere. I finally ditched it very close to the end of the game.

I may try the 150kg mod. Thats the problem, i try to go with the flow, but i hate the constant change and especially to worse off weapons. I ditched a few of the lower powered nato firing rounds last night for better ones, but still carry the same amount of weight.

really only need 2 weapons, a good assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and lots of ammo for both. The accuracy on pistols is so rediculously poor that the only pistol worth carrying is that unique one that takes rifle rounds (can't remember the name or where I found it), because with the ones that don't, even if you do manage to hit something you sure as hell aren't going to kill it.

One thing that I liked to do was leave a gun that took a round commonly used in a certain territory at the border to that territory.

Only carry 2 bits of food, since it's pretty plentiful.

You just have to manage the weight and dump stuff when you find something better.

As you travel along you get better weapons and can discard others. I've never purchased any ammo, you can always find a dead guy.

The three weapons I've found most helpful: 301, Freedom Automatic(cant remember the name) and the Vintar Scoped Sniper rifle (a must for the last level of the game)

I usually carry only 1 rifle,a pistola, all the grenades I can eat,10-12 medkits, all the bandages I can find, meat and bread, 3 energy drinks, 200-300 rounds for the rifle, and 20 rad kits. I always have room for another rifle.

Remember if you are low on ammo pick up rifles and unload the ammo then drop the empty weapon.

heh, do that but i still run out or have a hard time finding ammo for the gun. Yes I search bodys, unload there weapons and still have problems.

Here's a related question - how you actually hit enemies? I know the weapons have an accuracy rating, but I can't hit the broad side of a barn, even when something's in the middle of my sights or the crosshair dot.
I've tried spraying, single-shots, 3-shot bursts, and almost everything else. How are you supposed to aim? With 7-8 enemies roaming around all the time, I can't accomplish anything.

Well, first of all it is VERY hard in the beginning of the game with a pistol. Once you get further with better weapons it gets much much easier.

Do you have the crosshairs on? If not turn it on. Start at the waist and the gun will carry its self upwards.

Ok so the guy with the Ammo is in the duty base, woops. So you would need to finish the barkeep quests to be able to enter the base. Here are some Pics of his location, and what he sells.

I just started playing it my second time and have these mods installed.

I'm trying to do as many of the side jobs so I try to carry every artifact for eventual sale and I'm selling every gun I pick up (since I have 500kg weight limit, I take them all) so that I can load up on the good weapons later on.
The game was fun the first time through not cheating but I think I'm enjoying it more now. Constantly managing my weight limits so that I can still sprint seems like it sucked some of the fun out of it.

Ah ok, I go through that building all the time and never stopped. I'm on the Brain Scorcher quest right now, almost finished with it.

The Endurance mod (150kg limit) makes things better. I still have to worry about ammo, but only when I need it. Then I have to go through and unload all the many weapons that i'm carrying.

What is weird, if I go to him there is only one way out and that is deeper in the base...and when I try to get out one of the Duty guys(picture) starts to shoot me. And then they all turn on me...it happens everytime. So as of now I can't get to him...I guess I will need to keep doing the barkeeper missions and see if they allow me to go deeper in the base...

Right now I am doing the X18 mission...spooky stuff in there...:p

Eventually, I think its the barkeep, will tell you that the head of the Duty base wants to talk to you. You can then talk to those guys who will shoot you if you step inside the base, and they will let you in.

I was doing one of the missions the Duty commander gives you and the damn quest is broken. I am supposed to kill a bandit named Poker, but I guess he is in or near X-18 and typically you kill him while you do the stuff in that lab. Now the map says he is in Streloks old hiding place, which he is not.

Oh ok...got ya. Guess I will keep doing those missions...and make sure I don't kill a guy named poker while doing the X18 mission :p

That means I should be able to go in there with out getting shot as the bar keeper has already told me to talk to him.

May have something to do with how friendly you are with Freedom.

Look on GSC Gameworld forums and Stalkerfiles for some suit mods. There are some game-ruiningly stupid ones out there, letting you carry over 400Kg, but on GSC-Gameworld's forums someone's come up with a clever little .exe which allows you to select a more sensible one (60KG max, 70Kg immobile, for example). I can't remember the names, sorry.

Im using a stash in the Duty base (i think its duty) Just past the gate and so far I've got quite a collection of guns, ammo and artifacts there; I took out the sniper collected guns in the ensuing gun fight dumped em and now Im currently looting everything over there I can in between missions. I might install the mod to increase the weight so I don't have to make many trips. Im trading all the rifles for ammo and storing at least 1 of each gun in my stash. Might start stashing stuff in different levels so I don't have far to go. Im really enjoying the game. Just beat the X18 mission and that was spooky. Im in line to beat the X16. Oh ya, I was supposed to meet back with the leader of the squad who wanted me to take out the sniper and collect my reward...well he died in the gun fight, it keeps redirecting me to a dead body to collect my reward.

Quick question about stuff staying in stashes. I haven't had anything taken from my stashes but does it happen if you leave stuff in there long enough? I am not talking about the secret stashes/ one in the first trader. More so the ones in the bar, by wolf in the first camp, by the crashed train inbetween the first trader and barkeep and other public ones.

So far all my stashes are still full. I got about 200 rounds for everygun, 3x each weapon, including the snipers. 20 or so scopes. Can't wait to find someone to trade them for more ammo/better weapons.

Anyone know if there is a gun who will service guns so they don't degrade?

Anyone know if there is a guy who will service guns so they don't degrade?

There isn't anyone. There is a guy in the Freedom Amry Warehouses who says he fixes the Freedom guys stuff but all he will do for you is attach a scope to one of your weapons in exchange for some vodka.

Try the cheat I'm using and posted a few posts back. No armor and weapon degradation.

no repair but it is a dead easy mod to download and use. It makes it such that you can ask the barkeep and sid (1st trader) while talking to repair stuff for about half the cost of the item. Don't download the trader mod which does the same thing and allow you to buy everything in the game. That ruined it for me when I tried it as the more powerful armour/clothes ruin the starting parts of the game. Just install the reapir only mod

I ended up beating the game friday night. I went back to the scientist and bought about 1000 rounds for each of my good guns. The vivtar bc and GP 37 (IIRC). The endurance mod helped, but I'm sure i could of done it with the 50kg weight limit.

My ending was sort of lame, but thats my fault.

I just started playing this and uh...I keep dying from radiation :(

Like I'm not even out in the wild...I'm just in the main first town talking to someone and all of a sudden BAM I'm dead.

wtf lol?? Do you have to constantly take anti-radiation stuff?

I am going to assume that you have the jellyfish and/or another artifact equiped that adds radiation (+5) to you. If so, unequip it. Those artifacts are totally worthless and the bonuses are not worth the hassle of being irradiated. If you do want to use them, you need to wait untill you find artifacts sush as Urchin, Thorn, Pellicle, Crystal, Fireball, etc that reduce radiation and equip them. Keep in mind that most artifacts have positves and negatives.

Agreed, the only artifact I ever used was the sparkler (+38 endurance/ -10 electrical resistance).
