SP2 Install problem..

So i wiped my computer clean and installed a fresh version of windows on my dell 1505.. But because Dell blows and doenst give you a copy of windows anymore, I used the copy of windows from my previous dell 600m.
Format and clean install went well.. But when i go to install SP2 it starts the install and gets to the 'checking product key' stage and just stops responding.. I dont get a chance to enter a product key or anything, thats just what it tells me its doing..

Any help would be appreciated..

the genuine verification tool on microsoft checks the cd-key itself, you dont have to enter it in. im not sure if what your describing is the result of a bad internet connection or the fact that your cd-key was marked as "ungenuine".

make sure you're using IE to check/download updates

How long have you waited? lappys arent as speedy as desktops so it may take 5-10 minutes (possibly)

If you have access to the i386 directory on one of the OS CDs, you can use that with Autostreamer and the full SP2 file to make a new, slipstreamed disc. There's no reason anymore to install XP without having SP2 built in.

call dell and tell them to ship you an oem disk since they didn't send you one. they should be sending out disks, but they don't. i agree, it's retarded.

Its downloading it through the actual windows update program.. but my default browser is MoZilla .. would that have something to do with it..

Its not the internet connection or the laptop.. Ive let it run for hours while im at class just to see.. And it still didnt work..

Prot - If i call Dell they will ship me a copy?

If you dont have the OS CD with Sp2 in it, then you should download the SP2 network install (full install file) and then run it, rather than trying to download it through the windows update.
Probably easier and faster that way
(when you buy a Dell the OS CD is $10 more)

gave it a whirl... still didnt work.. stopped at the same point..

Should i just call dell and get an OEM disc and reinstall windows? Cause this is annoying... VB Express wont install without sp2.. and i need it for a class..
