hi guys, thinking of getting a external hdd enclosure since my lacie died (well drive still usable but don't think i will get another 1)

anyways, looking for a external hdd enclosure that supports usb2.0 and also esata

been looking at a few options:
antec mx1
coolermaster X Craft 350
and Vantec NexStar 3

the coolermaster and Vantec are pretty similar priced, but the Vantec looks better.

1 question tho, they all mention they support up to X amount GB hard drive, eg. the cooler master support up to 500gb.. and the vantec only 400gb....
does that mean if i put a 1TB in it, it won't work?

i am not sure what are their limitations, is it because of cooling? or the actual controller?

i am most likely going to put it my WD 500gb AAKS drive into it, but not so sure on that yet....

the antec mx1 is a bit expensive... but if its alot better than the other 2 then i wouldn't mind paying a bit more for it....

so any recommendations guys? thanks.

Maxtor 160GB sata drives I have in the Vanrec, smart reports 54C temps. Been running that way since about Jan. Pretty hot to the touch.

They can run any size drive, it's just a marketing attempt that can backfire when newer drives come out. You will see they will periodically update their specs so consumers can be more confident.

Go with either, but make sure you give it good cooling.
