We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Hello,

I have been trying to establish the feasability of using Mobiles to get status indicators from a website.

I have never interacted with mobiles before (at least not in the sense of a website).

Roughly what would be needed is for a SMS to be sent with some information (Username, Item ID etc) this needs to reach the site, which will process the information and send back a reply.

Do I need some sort of commercial SMS Gateway or huge infrastructure to pull this off or is it just outright impossible.

Any advice on what would be needed / providers would be usefull.

Thanks

Here's an article on how to send sms via a post to a webpage. http://www.phpkitchen.com/index.php?/archives/693-Sending-SMS-Thru-HTTP.html#extended
He recommends tm4b.com. I checked them out real quick and it looks like they let you send messages in the US for about 6 cents a pop. There's alot of people that offer this type of service.

Alternatively you can try using email to send them. I found this site that listed the domains for some carriers. http://www.lifehacker.com/software/cell-phones/send-sms-from-email-127033.php

I tried it using outlook. The message was received, but it stuck all of the lines into the body, includeing the subject. Not sure why, but there's prob a way to fix it.

You might also want to take a look at teleflip.

if you need to receive sms on a pc here's one service for doing it. http://www.sms2email.com/site/sms2email.php
