OK, I have encountered an extremely odd problem. I have a network with 4 XP machines, and 2 2000 machines. All machines point to one of the XP machines as the fileshare. The 2000 machines can access files at normal 100 mbit speed with no problems at all, they both are running office XP, the XP machines are all having issues connecting to the XP fileshare, these machines have office 2003. File transfer without the use of office is extremely efficient, in fact it is faster to move a file to the desktop, work on it, and move it back to the file share than it is to open it from within the program. Everything is connected via a mapped drive, and appears to work fine other than this problem.

Is this a problem with office 2003?

Would DNS be playing a role in this mess, I know with this many machines we should have a server, something that can manage DNS and file sharng with AD. However, my boss doesnt feel the need to spend the money...

Any help or advice would be appreciated as I am at a loss for solutions...
