Slackware Blank Screen

Ok I got a strange problem here. Just did a fresh slackware install. All was well. Recompiled the kernel, rebooted and I have a screen up to lilo then once i load the kernel it jsut goes black. The system does load though cause I can ssh in from my other system.

So I went back to the default kernel and this still happens. Anyone have any idea what would cause this? I assumed since I have a screen up until lilo that it was something astray in the kernel. But even the default one is doing it.

Thanks for any ideas.

Are we talking the kernel wont display, or X dosent work? (not fimiliar with slackware)

If its X, your display settings are fubar. If its the kernel wont display...I have no idea. What does your monitor do? Just not display anything or go standby like it's got no input?

no I dont run X. Its the kernel. Monitor is fine, jsut goes black when it should show the kernel booting.

I'll shut up here, because I have no clue at all! Good luck

Thanks. I think its something to do with the framebuffer but im using the exact setting I always use.. Im lost.

just try booting the kernel with no framebuffer or other video related settings.

Did you keep the older kernel for backup? You can boot into that instead and try to see what went wrong. Otherwise, you may have to grab a Knoppix CD and recompile the kernel.

That is, if it isn't just your XWindows that's fUx0r3d.

Thanks. to answer your questions.

1) I dont use X
2) I tried booting without the framebuffer. Worked fine, but as u know its ugly. Plus framebuffer alwwys worked on this machine before.
3) I tried booting the old kernel with the same results.

did you upgrade to a 2.6 kernel? I think you might need different syntax on the vga options. Go to forums.gentoo.org -->tips and tricks-->bootsplash howto and read some of the stuff there.

You might want to take out the "vga=..." line in your lilo.conf...
