Skipping?

I've got a wierd problem with my computer that decided to pop up out of nowhere.

Every 3 seconds or so my computer "skips" meaning the computer stops everything it is doing for a split second, be it music, games, or whatever.

I can't pin-point what program is doing this but everytime it does this it takes 9% CPU.

I'm running a slk-948U with a tornado fan @ 29C, so I don't think it's overheating.

I've tried formatting, but after an hour or so it came back up, leading me to think this is a hardware issue. So far I've only run memtest86, and didin't get any errors.

Anyone?

I'll start with a few basic suggestions, if you've already done this let me know please.

Are you overclocking? If so, scale it back, see how that goes.

Check for spyware/adware (see my signature).

Viruses too ;).

I was before, but scaled down because of the problem, I'm at stock speeds now.

Done

Done. Nothing found.

I'm trying to check through device manager, but my hard drives are being detected as SCSI drives (they're SATA)

You were sure to update the definitions on both spyware programs right? Sorry, should have mentioned that. I'll also assume you are still having the problem.

Do you have a CD in your computer's drive? Are you connected to a network, and mapping any network drives?

I've only run 1 spyware program (spybot), and it was updated, yes.

There is no cd inside right now. I'm sharing an internet connection using a linksys 4 port router, no drives are mapped. I'm not really networked to the other computer on the network since I reformatted and diidn't set everything back up. I guess the other computer could still be pinging this comp but most of the time its off.

I found the problem after formatting again. It was my onboard NIC drivers, if I install them I get the problem, once disabled/uninstalled it works fine. I've tried the latest drivers too. Anyone got a solution except another NIC?

ctrl-alt-delete and watch the resources and which one is doing it. Some programs like..lets say SETI@HOME, or F@H like to be memory hogs and those cause the pc to skip like that. Whatever on that resource list jumps up in resources every few seconds, close it and see if it continues.

Another thing it could be..is a bad sector on the HD that isnt MARKED bad and windows is still using it.

EDIT: nm i didnt read your posts, you fixed it.
