My uv cold cathodes are unfortunately not so bright any more!

So does anyone have any idea what could have happened here?

Also do you think my actual cathode tubes are done? Can I get away with just getting another power box?

But 10 to 1 your Inverter DIED!
They have a shitty life span.

Go out to your local computer joint and pick up a replacement inverter for the size of CCFL you have.
Also make sure you don't run more than 1 CCFL per inverter (even if it has a second plug for another CCFL) The inverter will last a lot longer.
 
it looks like you overheated the inverter. did you stick it under something? they have to have some airflow, not nessesarly its own fan but at least not shoved in a corner. the little holes on top are for air ;)

chances are the bulbs are fine... xoxide.com sells $3 inverter replacements

err - this isnt true. the circut works just as hard with one or two bulbs... they draw .05ma and it is a current regulator so its got to provide the same current if one or two bulbs are hooked up.

Agreed 100%, good info...
 
If you double the load then the power requirements go up. That means more power going through the same inverter, and more heat generation.

Wether it actually equates to more dead inverters is something I cannot say. As to why so many let the smoke out, Id say bad quality inverters.

Someone needs to test the current load on startup/running with dual versus single so this fistfight can be ended once and for all. Unfortunately, I have but one plug per inverter here so I'm as useless as CC lights in bright sunlight.... :confused:
I've been wondering this same thing myself as I agree almost all CC light inverters are very cheaply made.

lol...i was doing some stupid mod with one of those controller knobs yesterday and after i powerd on the fan was workin great but i look donw and this bright white light was eminating from the knob and poof...this cloud blows in my face...
thats the joys of testing first...
