I want to simulcast a live video stream from an auditorium into computers in multiple rooms (mainly for overflow) and potentially a lobby area on a projector. Since it is on a university campus, all of the network connections will be over the university network.

My question is, what is the most convenient way to accomplish this without having to get some sort of complicated custom arrangement with the university's network administrators? Is it even possible without their involvement?

I am also at a loss in terms of how to send video from the capture device across the network in real time. I plan to film the event with a Canon VIXIA HF10, but the bitrate is quite high and I haven't the faintest idea of how to set up the feed even if the bandwidth were sufficient. Would I have to use some sort of webcam? How would that work?

If you have admin to the computer you will be webcasting from and ports aren't being blocked, and IT isn't traffic shaping the hell out of that pc's connection, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&displaylang=en would be a good choice. You wouldn't need any software on the clients. All you would have to give students is the stream link to enter into media player. You can set it to stream video from a capture device in real time. BUT in a non-multicast setup with little traffic shaping, You won't get more than say 60ish clients at 1.5mbit (You may want to go higher). Also, the computer encoding the stream will have to be on the beefier side.
