Producer Motoi Okamoto and Creative Director/Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart talk about the changes they made to the game. The primary change is moving to an over-the-shoulder third-person view and updating the combat and set pieces for this new perspective. The game is running on Unreal Engine 5 and will make use of the global illumination feature Lumen to enhance the atmosphere. Bloober is working with original series creators Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito to ensure the game keeps the original atmosphere intact.

I'm hearing rumors it could come as early as May and as late as December 2023. Hopefully it's up there with the likes of RE2R. I'm excited to see the new crop of UE5 games. The production quality of this looks fantastic.

I wonder if they're going to hold it back for the movie release next year for the extra hype. The trailer looks like it's pretty far along in development. The movie starts filming in February, so they may be aiming for a Halloween season release.

Part of me wishes they'd remake 1-3 and sell the bundle, but I will absolutely take this!!

I guess they're trying to go with "contemporary" now instead of "modern" with how much negative connotation is attached to the latter, but you're not fooling us.

No, wait, she didn't catch herself here:

TBH it looks a bit soulless, but my Anti-Konami bias is probably playing into that.

Remaking Silent Hill 2 is like making the Sistine Chappel Roof: Reloaded edition

I wouldn't mind a graphical bump with some new textures, models... but they're completely re-doing the story and I doubt they're going to nail the nuances of guilt and psychosis that the original had.

They're going from a dynamic cinematic camera to OTS. What did you expect it to look like?
Not a page from Capcom's play book.
I'm just giving you my unbiased opinion on how it looks to me since I've never played the OG's.

I just don't understand how it could be done differently.
Dead Space Remake is a corridor shooter and doesn't look like RE and it has OTS.
Same with The Callisto Protocol and probably a dozen other games.

I like RE so it's not a bad thing per say, I've just been there and done that, and I have the t-shirt to prove it.

Dead Space remake doesn't look any different from the original game from a gameplay perspective. The Callisto Protocol really doesn't, either, when it comes to the shooting mechanics. Melee is more dynamic, of course.

Fact of the matter is that Resident Evil 4 set the standard for pretty much every game with over-the-shoulder shooting mechanics. The only thing that has really changed is moving from a laser with realistic sway to a crosshair with annoying bloom.

You are right, Dead Space remake looks just like the OG which looks nothing like RE. That is the point I was trying to make.

RE4 might of set the standard, but that doesn't mean every game has to copy the way the protagonist grips the gun or stalks down the hallway with it up against their head. Maybe cuz their Japanese?
Even his hair reminds me of Leon.

The first GoW is a good example of a unique OTS shooter. That game took me forever to get use to playing it, and is nothing like any RE, which if I'm not mistaken, came out after RE4.
I can name more but I think you know what I'm getting at, plus this is so far OT it'll probably get deleted.

I think the PC version is using Ray Reconstruction since the footage shown by Konami has no Lumen RT noise issues like the PS5 gameplay trailer does:

View: https://youtu.be/N0SF0nQWV1g

So this means Arc/RDNA cards will also have this noisy RT which is typical of UE5's Lumen RT. Only Ray Reconstruction solves that.

Really want this game to be good... Also would have rather had an SH1 remake.. But 2 will do for now.

Wokeness injected into Silent Hill, just what we need. If those creepy nurse broads don't have awesome cleave I'm out.

My time on this planet is coming to an end, but I still work, so any free time I have to game is way more precious than money. Fuck it, I’m buying this and playing it tonight.
