I just did a fresh install and realized it's SP1. I don't really think I need SP2 too much, is the security increase very good?

No they just made it so you can ask the question just like all the windows updates

Yes - This question is asked here every week so don't take these replys in a bad way but it's a security update that Windows needs more than anything. Please install SP2 and also search some of the other threads that ask the same exact question.

C.

Holy shit. When I'm 80 people are still going to be asking this same retarded question aren't they????

Windows security updates are NOT optional. They are required for the safety and reliability of the OS.

Windows Mediaplayer = optional update
Windows security != optional update.

We need a sticky that says UPGRADE TO SP2 = YES! :(

I just loaded NT4 Workstation with SP3 should I install SP3 or SP4 or SP6 or SP6a or 2000 is that a stable OS or maybe XP but that's too "fancy" for me.

I call shen's on this thread considering someone said in the latest XP/SP3 thread someone said there hasn't been a good "Should I upgrade to SP2" thread in a few months.

Yeah, they need to create a sticky and start handing out b7s for these bullshit threads.

I would hold off... let your dlls settle in for a week or two.
You don't want to get that "waxy windows build up"

Since you have your computer up and running now, it would be a good time to get Autostreamer, and make your XP SP1 disc into an XP SP2 disc for future installs.

SP2 is a must along with the 27 other updates that are out on the windows update site. Also do your self a favor and Download Nlite and Slipstream SP2 into your cd. It will make your life o so much easier.

YOU DON'T THINK YOU NEED SP2?

YOU NEED SP2

The security increase is incredible. Not to mention stability. MS have thwarted ALL compatability issues. It is the best service pack yet (I say this because SP2 and the original XP were horrible).

you've waited this long.. why not just wait for sp3. :rolleyes: or better yet VISTA that way there wont be any service packs out for that one and you wont have to worry about it, Cause it'll be perfect right out of the box, just like xp was.. for 5 minutes
