hey guys. i know this isn't really related to HTPC, but i've got a question....

here's what i have: motorola hdmi dual tuner cable box (dch 3416), sony hdmi capable hd tv, onkyo receiver

what'd i'd like to be able to do is watch/listen to the cable box through the tv w/o the receiver for the news etc AND be able to watch on demand movies through the cable box with receiver for surround.

the only way i've come up with to make this work (i think): hdmi out of cable box to receiver, out of receiver hdmi to tv. and component video and audio out of cable box, straight to the tv.

main question, will the cable box broadcast over two outputs simultaneously? if not, what's the best way to achieve my goal (if at all possible)?
 
here are some HDMI splitters...

I would go with a 2x1 active powered splitter but the $9 passive splitter might work fine for a short cable.
