Server rack question

I installed my first server today. I will spare you the details but I finally got it in after 3 hours. Picture me installing it un-installing it several times because of certain mistakes.

My question is this: I spent a good amount of time trying to get the holes to line up properly. The server was a 3 U blade server but our server rack did not have any 3 holes that had equal spacing betweeen the holes. Here is a picture to help explain:

Hopefully you can see what I mean. Notice the different size spaces between the holes (the holes are the black part). Is there a different kind of server rack that has 3 holes that are equally spaced? Do we have the wrong kind of rack? Is there a different type of rack that should be used for 3 U servers?

NOTE: I am using the term U because I believe that is the term for the holes in the server, correct?

p.s. If you are wondering, yes I had the thing in upside down a couple of times.

Most modern racks have numbers next to some of the holes so it's easier to line them up.

The two holes that are farther away from each other is 1U. In the picture you made there, there's 5U.
