Ok, I just build a second computer and went out and got a Linksys Router (BEFSR41). Standard configuration (DSL modem -> Router -> Computers). I had Norton Personal Firewall installed on my original computer for security. I don't think it is of much use now and becides, I want both computers secure.

What things do I need to do with the router to make it more secure? And will it be more secure than my computer originally was with Norton on it?
 
its a non-wireless router so there is much less security you have to worry about. The only breach in security is if someone broke into your house and plugged their laptop in :) . It has NAT so that alone will be more secure.
 
Yes, hardware firewalls are safer than software firewalls. Use both, if possible.

Router security stuff, off the top of my head, in no order:

1) Change the default password on the router. One you will remember.

2) Make sure the ports are how you like. Use GRC's ShieldsUP to test for open ports on a router. Go to http://www.grc.com/default.htm, scroll toward bottom and click ShieldsUP, Proceed, All Service Ports (on top of the blue box).

3) Configure your logs, like a fox!
