Scanner help

I recently tried to reinstall my Canon CanoScan1240U Scanner (using a driver downloaded from the Canon Website) and a scanning utility program off of the original installation disk.

When trying to scan, I get the error "Could Not Select Twain Source".

Also when trying to use the original installation disk, I get the error "The Twain source is not present, so you will not be able to use the scanner even after installing the software".

I have tried uninstalling the software, running Regclean, deleting the .DS file from the windows Twain folder, rebooting with and without scanner unplugged etc but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be appreciated!

if you have everything uninstalled and plug in the scanner - does windows recognize a new USB device has been plugged in? i ask because i once had a similar problem and after checking out boatloads of different drivers it was a broken cable

if it does make windows have a driver you choose, not the automatic install and point it to the drivers manually.

Yes, windows did recognise what it was before the drivers had been plugged in. Also the scanner passed the windows diagnostc test fine.
