I am trying to install a fresh copy of windows on a new Maxtor SATA II/ 300 HD. I have a an Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo. I understand that I need to hit F6 to install the sata drivers during windows set up, but I need some help making sure I have the correct drivers on the floppy disk.

Could someone please let me know what the correct set of sata drivers are for my configuration (mobo + hd) and more importantly where to get them?

Thanks a lot.

You should be able to get the floppy drivers from the Asus website or from the manufacturer of the chipset.

Also be aware that you generally only need to press F6 if you're installing AHCI or RAID drivers. You don't need to do that if your SATA controller is in IDE mode (though you'll lose SATA features like hot-swap support and NCQ).

First, try installing Windows without the drivers. There is a good chance it will work.

If it doesn't see a harddrive, then download the latest hyperion 4in1s off of viaarena.com and unzip the file. There is a program in there (in a folder called utilities I think) that lets you make the driver floppy.

thanks for the speedy replies. windows install will not continue because it says "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer." from what i understand, this means i need to install the sata drivers from a floppy by hitting F6 during set up...

am i right in this assumption?

bigbadbiologist, can you give me more of a step by step for what i need and how to get it, just to make sure i'm putting the correct info on the floppy? thanks.
