I have an XP box and a linux box running samba.

I can ping the linux machine with ip and name but net use give an error 67 network name not found

any ideas?

Are you running the NMBD daemon on the Linux box? That is the NetBios Name Daemon and generally handles that part from my experience.

Can you access the Linux box by going to run and typing: \\ip_address_of_linux and get a list of shares?

OH GEEZ!!!

I forgot that I had set the hosts allow in smb.conf to only my main PC. we had a power outage recently so when DHCP reassigned addresses my main pc's usual address got switched with the server!
