I had a disk crash on my server that is running samba on it. I took this time to install a fresh copy of FC6 on it. After the install, updating to latest versions via yum, and then doing initial configuration( adding back users, setting up services, etc ) I reloaded the data the samba shares from back up. The backup included the data and the config files( /etc/samba ). When I try to reconnect the windows machines to the samba server, they see the shares just fine, but when they try to create/update/delete any files they get a 'Access Denied' message. The windows machines did not change and the samba config files are the same. I have check the directory permissions and they are good. Does anyone knwo what might be causing the problem? I have been pulling what little hair I have left out the last couple of days

Is the share drive actually mounted as a rw in /etc/fstab and not just ro?

ie.

/dev/hdb1 /media/hdb1 auto defaults 0 0
(that is simple mounting)

I love using SWAT to configure Samba... it's a web based samba.conf editor, and it rocks my socks off. Might be helpful to double check if it's a permission issue. Or again, it could be a mounting issue.

The directory is mounted rw. I can create/read/update/delete file when logged into the machine just fine. I will take a look at swat and see if that helps.

It helps to post samba.conf here. Check if the share uses "read-only = No"

Actually I figured it out a couple of days ago. It was SeLinux not allowing the create/update/delete operations to happen. This was masked by not having the audit aemon running so the SelInux errors where not getting in the dmesg log. Once I started the audit daemon, created the needed SeLinux policies, everything is work as expected :)
