I recently bought a netgear rt314 router. It works fine except for one problem. Every few hours It'll disconnect for a few seconds and then keep working. This can be pretty frustrating when I'm gaming and it also forces me to reconnect to AIM/IRC and other messenger programs. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? Thanks.

The RT314 is an oldie ( I have one around in my basement somewhere...was pretty quick)....do you have whatever firmware is the latest for it? Might possibly be going bad on ya too.

I have no idea what firmware is installed on it. I really don't know anything about setting up routers and firmware.

Ok I found out I have the latest firmware installed. Didn't really see any helpful information to fixing this problem in those manuals.

I used to have one of these, and after a few years of service, I noticed it would randomly just reboot when i started to transfer a large file across the network or just a random intervals. I got 2 RMAs and it still had the problem. I just gave up and started using the verizon modem one.

I've used 2 of those over the years and both of them went bad on me in a short amount of time. They were not very reliable at all, I found. Based on my experience and others that i know that have used that it is most likely bad and I would trash it in favor of something new.

Alright, any specific routers you would recommend? I was thinking about the BEFSR41 v3 but the reviews seem mixed.

I prefer the BEFSX41 over the "SR" series...faster CPU and more RAM...faster overall. Only one thing...get the 1.45.7 firmware...the 1.50.x and 1.51.x is quite buggy, 1.52 versions are better, but most people familiar with the sx prefer the 1.45.7 version. You can find many threads about it over at dslreports.com, the Linksys forums. Pretty much the best sub $100.00 router they've made. Actually I'll rephrase that, and state "Pretty much the best sub $100.00 router ever made by any brand" in my opinion.
