I just recently got Comcast cable modem and hooked up a linksys router, router number BEFSR81, which happens to be a 8 port router. Well whenever I have the router hooked up, the power light continues to flash instead of staying lite up all the time. Thus with this happening I get kicked off the internet, and Its really starting to bother me and my Family. Would anyone know what the problem is? I've switched the power unit to 3 different power supplies and it does it on each and every one. Also it will work for like 10 mins and then when someone in my family logs into aol, it will die on everyone causing everyone to lose anything they were working on, on the internet. I've very stumped.. my dad and me are almost ready to take it back to Best Buy and buy a 4 port router from a different company than Linksys, but I thought I'd give you guys a shot to help me out, because I do know there are many many brillant people on this site that I bet would save me a trip back to Best Buy lol.

Please Help!

Chris

junk the linksys for a belkin... i've heard bad things about linksys.

could also be a virus... does it cut off your comp every time you get on the net?

Yea whenever im on the router, especially yesterday Id get kicked off like every 5-10 mins... It was annoying as hell. Im going to do a virus scan in a bit. But yes every time im on the net or trying to connect it doesnt let me unless i restart.

Ive also heard bad things about linksys but i'd though i'd give it a try. I'll look into Belkin

this sounds like the sasser worm.

basic story... kid wanted to create a fool-proof antivirus... so he created a worm that modified a file called lsass.

lsass is designed to shut down a window (or even the whole computer) under certain conditions... the modification that the kid made... well, your computer shuts down whenever you connect to the net.

there is a way to fix it but it takes over a half hour to do.

Would i solve all my problems by getting a new router? Also what type of belkin router do you use?
I found this belkin... but it was just at a first glance, http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProd...=&Section_Id=201487&pcount=&Product_Id=136521.

Would i happen to have the same type of problem with this router, or no? Like it only does it when im on the router... because I've been connected through the modem now for almost a hour and thats a record so far lol.
