It seems, that the ToR and Lotro microtransaction models are working, so other MMOs are going that way. Trion announced, that from 12 June Rift is going to be microtransaction MMO - content is free, but fluff, additional character slots and such are paid.
Though, they also go with money cards - you can buy gold token from their store, and then sell it to the other players via auction house - kinda scared that it might turn into pay to win, but Trion promise it's just to curb the goldsellers, because people will always buy gold, so lets just make it legal for them.
