Alright I think I'm coming down the home stretch with my setup please take a look and see what you think...
MSI - K8N SLI Platinum / AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (motherboard + CPU)
http://www.pricewatch.com/h/prc.aspx?i=306&a=180565
Mushkin Dual Pack 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 (memory)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-299&depa=1
eVGA Geforce 6600GT 128MB PCI-Express x16 (video card)
http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/produ...14-130-214&ATT=Video Cards&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch
CoolerMaster Centurion 5 (case)
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=11-119-068&DEPA=0
I will be using a previous hard drive from another machine and the Soundblaster included on the motherboard. That only leaves the PSU to consider. Now with this setup I was thinking that this would do:
Cooler Master Real Power 450W
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-171-001&depa=0
...buuut then I was thinking that when I do decide to upgrade (which was a critical factor in my current setup) I might not have a beefy enough supply to get enough juice to a stronger processor and another GPU (SLI). I came up with this:
FSP Group (Fortron Source) Blue Storm 500W
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-934&depa=0
Now as I said I'm fairly new to this area and would greatly appreciate any advice/recommendations anyone might have. I've tried to do as much research as possible on my own but I was hoping I might be able to get some professional help with this final component.
Thanks so much for your time in reading this and any sincere advice that you might have.
