Replacing Leaking Capacitor?

Hi guys, my friend's 8600GTS stopped working all of a sudden from some reason. I took a look at the card, and it looks like one of the capacitors is leaking (some brown stuff coming out the top, will post picture later for reference). EVGA won't replace the card because it wasn't registered within 30 days.

So is it possible to replace this capacitor? I have some basic soldering skills, I've modded my eee pc and a few game consoles. The top of the capacitor reads: "FZ77 470 16V". If I can replace it, where can I get another capacitor? Thanks for the help!

dont you have the original invoice? As long as you have the invoice they should replace it.

My dad's LCD died, so I opened it up for a look. All the caps in one area were bulging. So I snagged similar caps from Fry's and replaced them, it worked great. But it was easy, lots of room, and it's just a simple built-in monitor power unit.

Video card might be a little more challenging...

I have replaced leaking caps on a motherboard and also on a video card that were both out of warranty. Back up and running in 15 minutes, plus time to run down to radio shack for the caps. Still running after 5 years too!

still, call up evga, they should replace it. what card is it? just curious, how many cards dont have solid caps these days? unless its one of those tiny ones...

Hey, thanks for the help guys! It's a 8600gts 512mb, so it is one of those small cards. I do still have the original invoice from newegg. The reason for denial was that I didn't register with in 30 days for the extended (lifetime) warranty, so I only got the 1 year warranty. Will they still replace it?
