Hi, I have two MSsql2k servers right now with identical databases > oldserver and newserver. Oldserver is a win2k secondary DC as well. New server is win2003 and a member server of the domain. I will be removing mssql from oldserver and transfering the task onto the new server. However, my database applications call by the name of "oldserver\dbinstance_name" and I need to fork with active_directory resolution or dns to reroute oldserver sql requests tot he new one. any ideas and or suggestions?
I though about renaming the oldserver to something else and giving the newserver its name. Will this work? what are the implications on active direcory since oldserver is also secondary dc. tia
edit: small chart
server1 (main dc)
||
oldserver - secondary dc and also handles sql. sql to be removed
||
newserver - preconfigured with oldserver's database. to replace sql task of old server.
