My motherboard went out on my Compaq Presario Desktop and it is a Asus A8M2n-LA.
Do I need to replace it with the exact same motherboard in order for windows to load?
 
It doesn't have to be the exact same board, but if it IS, you will save yourself time installing drivers for all the devices of different board.

You can probably shop around and find other motherboards in the same ballpark of specs and compatibility as yours and see if there isn't a replacement that'd be cheaper than getting the same model. But if it isn't horribly expensive or hard to find, I'd say go for the exact replacement for peace of mind.
 
I have looked around for the exact board and they go for 85$ from Hong Kong. Looked at Newegg and found one for 40$ with free shipping. The specifications were pretty close. I am trying to find one with exact build in graphic then I won't need to load the drivers.

Bought a MSI am2 motherboard and reactivated windows over the internet and we are back in business.
