Remote Control For Pc????

I need to know if anyone has a remote to turn on a pc. Would replace, or go along side the power button for a computer. I tried using this like an RF On/OFF remote.
This one is ok but uses a 3V standby and for the xbox... dont really knoww if there is a better setup or actual product to do this . We could not get it to work. So if anyone has other Suggestions or serious leads.. thanks.just some pics of what youll see on that site.. look at site for info .. thx.

Any remote kit that can switch a relay should work grand. I know velleman do one that works off of 12V, so you could hook that up to your 12VSb, still got the problem of modding your atx connector though
 
If you are still trying to figure this out, I suggest you use the remote receiver to close a relay. The relay would be wired parallel to your MOM-SPST power button. In a computer, you have a 12v standby voltage, so you could use just about any small 12v relay, less then 2 bucks at radioshack

EDIT: for the ATX connector, you could either (the right way) open up your psu and solder the connections directly to the board or (the wrong way) use 3m tapin connectors from any automotive store/radioshack.
 
what if you wanted to have a remote of a sort that performs at least 3 functions.. would it also matter what its powering.. say a servo from an rc car .. or a small motor...?what would i need to do or know in order to make this possible?
 
Please elaborate... for a start

>what would it be controled with (zipzap controler, keyfob remote)
>what would it be controling (cont. rotation RC servo, or pwm controled servo)

and what it would be doing would be nice to know... not to pry. but most proably, it is possable. just let me know

ok check it.. im not a huge tech person, but whats the issues about the remote being RF. Is the main issue the possibilty of RF interference coming from somewhere.. what kind of signal output would i be looking for, non signal intereference remote. If thats the case.
 
RF just means that it works....well, kinda like a radio-controlled car. You don't have to point the remote at the target, or even be in the same room. (On the other hand, think of your TV remote--you have to point it at the TV and be in the same room. The TV remote's using IR).

You shouldn't have any problems with RF interference, unless you have a neighbor that likes to transmit all sorts of power at odd frequencies with no regard to FCC regulations. Just about any RF remote should work. Heck, if all you need is something to turn on the PC, the doorbell thing could work. Whatever kit you eventually get, it should be pretty straightforward to set it up.
 
Well in this case the doorbell remote could work.. but its for the xbox MOD... and it uses ..i think the 3V standby for turning on the xbox. .. but the PC is slightly different .. could anyone answer where to plug that into a 20 pin atx power connector for your mobo..



WHAT ABOUT A 24 pin atx power connector... ???

There's usually one or two 3-pin headers on a PC motherboard with the 5VSB and a convenient 0V, RTFM for wake-on-lan, chassis intrusion, etc.

On the main plug it's the purple (violet) wire on pin 9.

hey I know this sounds lazy enough but does anyone have a pic of a 24 pin ATX layout and point out the standby for someone else reading this thread. . sorta stuck at work .. thx.. . by the way what does 0V, RTFM stand for.. sorry for noob question but not good with voltages and what not.
