I'm looking to buy a book on relational database design because I just got a job and I need to brush up seeing as I took my databases class 3 years ago and haven't done much database stuff since then. If anyone knows of a good book please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Relational Database Design Book Recommendations

take a look at Database managment systems, 3rd edition by Ramakrishnan and Gehrke
it goes into a fairbit of application and the books questions are ranging from easy to mediocre, they teach it at ubc a third year course.
Personally i liked it , since it was very easy to read . ill see if i can find and post my profs notes .. (if its allowed anyway) those ranged from mediocre to hard .

Database Design for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Relational Database Design, Second Edition was suggested to me previously somewhere, quite possibly here, however, i haven't gotten the chance to buy it so i don't really know about it. just thought i'd through it out there

I always have this book near at hand. Its an excellent source of ideas on how to model data, quite readable and reasonably compact. Just be aware that you will not always need to be nearly as detailed in your implementations as the models in the book.

Do you which DBMS(s) you'd be working with? You might be best served to get book(s) focused on the system(s) you'd actually be working with... If you'll be using SQL Server, the product documentation, SQL Server Books Online, is very helpful. (Can actually be found online here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/startsql/getstart_4fht.asp )
