just wondering if anyone new anything bout cosmetic defects on refurbished macs...the macbook pro just looks so nice wouldnt want a big scratch on it when it comes

I ordered a refurbished Mac mini from Apple last Christmas, as well as a refurbished Powerbook just the other day.

Both arrived in mint condition. Actually, probably better than mint. ;)

Everything is replaced. Mine's refurbished, best decision of the year... you even get a new serial # (starts with RN)

They don't replace things for refurbish, they recondition. If it's broken, then I would understand, but minor things like hairline scratches are not reaosn enough for Apple to replace the casing.

You sure about that? Mine came absolutuly flawless! The top still had that "newly anodized" smell too. (I anodize aluminum, so I can pick it up, I swear)

The power cord, however, was a different story, and was replaced under Applecare.

The condition of the refurbs probably depends on the reason they were shipped back in the first place. A computer that was DOA and shipped back the same day and then refurbished will obviously be in pretty much mint condition. One that goes down after a few weeks of rough-n-tumble in someone's backpack might have a few cosmetic errors. Minor cosmetic flaws is a risk you take by purchasing a refurbed Mac.

i bought a refurbed MBP about 2 weeks ago and it arrived in excellent conditions. the only things that i've noticed are that the case is everso slightly bent just above the latch and tehre is a slight flaw in the lcd, but not the pixels themselve. it looks like a tiny flaw in the plastic covering the lcd. it doesn't affect the colors it displays, but it makes that little spot look brighter when anything other than black is behind it.

however, i must say that i only notice it when i am looking for it specifically, and it doesn't affect any work that i do. i would not hesitate to buy apple refurb again.

i love this thing and the $400 discount for buying refurb vs retail can't be beaten.
