random pattern on screen

dunno why but sometimes my HP laptop produces the pattern shown below.....

I then restart and get a BSOD saying "IRQL not less or equal"

wots up?? its a HP pavilion DV6552ea running vista 32-bit

I can provide the dump file if someone is able to read them...
 
It looks like a GPU issue to me. Does your laptop have a dedicated video card? There are issues with nVidia's mobile GPUs, so this could be related.
 
could be possible bad connection on wire coming from unit to screen? (might be loose)
 
HP also has a recall/repair out on a lot of dv6000 models due to overheating. You should check if yours is on that list; I just got my mobo replaced through it.

That's actually because of the defects with nVidia's mobile GPUs, which is most likely what's going on here.
 
its not listed......i can't stand HP repair..the laptops always come back scratched and with missing screws :-(
